Is there a decent search engine we can defect to?

NSN A392-99-964-5927 writes "I find it highly disturbing that even using https encrypted google; Bing etc I cannot help but find despite their claims; even still one is being pushed into a certain direction.of searches and these organisations are paid for this.

Is there any alternative out there? I remember Nutch that was "Crushed by big search engines". Nothing is safe anymore and my generation feels just like turning off the internet altogether."
