Man Booted from Bookstore for Browsing Children's Section

Books 5

Hugh Pickens writes writes "The LA Times reports that 73-year-old Dr. Amin, the director of a Scottsdale medical clinic, was looking for gifts for his two grandsons in an Arizona Barnes & Noble when he got a rude tap on the shoulder: It seems a female customer told store officials she was “uncomfortable” that a man was in the children’s section unaccompanied by any minor. Store employee Todd Voris told Amin to leave and escorted him out of the business. “He said that men alone are not supposed to be in the children's reading area by themselves,” says Amin. “I told him there were no signs, and then he said a woman complained.” When Amin asked if he could question the complaining shopper, the store declined. "The employee asked whether I’d heard about kids being molested in bookstores and I said I didn’t. Maybe I should have picked some strange kid to go to the store with me so they would leave me alone," says Amin. "I don’t know how that works.” Last week, Barnes & Noble issued a statement that it had "acted appropriately" in removing Amin from the children's section. Barnes & Noble has since issued this statement: "We want to apologize to Dr. Amin for a situation in which Dr. Amin was asked to leave the children's section of our Scottsdale, Arizona store. We should not have done so. It is not our policy to ask customers to leave any section of our stores without justification.""

Political Correctness has gone wild ! (3, Insightful)

Why do they only picked on men?

If the matter of pedophile is concerned, the male species are not the only ones who are guilty.

There are female who are pedophile too !

Just because of a complaint by a female customer, the store booted out a male customer, a 73 year old male customer

This is one of the by-product of of political correctness that had gone wild !

How can you even connect this incident to "political correctness?

Seriously, in what way does assuming a single man is a pedophile have any connection to minimizing offense to someone or some group of people? [wikipedia.org] Who exactly could possibly be offended by assuming that someone is a normal person?

What happened here isn't political correctness, it is fear-mongering and stereotyping. If anything, that's exactly the kind of thing that those who are routinely accused of "political correctness" seek to eliminate.

The fact that they booted out a man and not that woman who complained, says a lot about the nature of political correctness, for, under the dogma of political correctness, no female, no minority, no person with disability, no underprivileged person, should be humiliated in any way

And under the same political correctness dogma, it is kosher to do anything to the man species, any man, even a man who is already 73-year old

Oh that's right, I forgot, you are the guy with the low-uid who sees the world through the glasses of your personal insecurities. Never mind then.

That in this day and age, you would find two people shopping in a book store at the same time. I mean sure the guy is 73 but even MY parents, who were sure I was going to get sucked into a computer ever since "Tron" came out, have broken down and started buying stuff on the internet! And the other person? I can only assume they were lost or something and wandered in thinking it was a Phish concert.

They should have kicked them BOTH out after bludgeoning them with "Buying Stuff on Amazon for Dummies."

:-P
