Gmail truncating composed messages

An anonymous reader writes "A code update to Gmail's web application made about a week ago has made it impossible to compose or forward longer emails. Emails are now limited to about 25 screenfuls. Users have recently been complaining about this on the Gmail support forum, but Gmail's SME's are acting like its a PICNIC (Problem In Chair, Not In Computer)."

They have also been "testing" me with a banner across the top of the mail window that won't go away -- telling me to update my older browser. I've got my reasons for keeping it and they are just annoying me with this yellow ribbon of wasted screen real estate.
