Amazon Introduces "Immersion Reading" Technology

destinyland writes "Amazon's introduced a new feature that syncs your audiobooks to your ebooks, with the words being highlighted as you read along. "Academic research supports the assertion that all readers can benefit from listening while reading," Amazon said in a statement, arguing that it enriches the experience for struggling readers, but also provides experienced readers "additional clues to the meaning beyond the words themselves.” They're calling it a Kindle exclusive, and it's already been implemented for nearly 15,000 ebooks. In addition, Amazon's also implemented the ability to switch instantly from text ebooks to audiobooks — and to publicize both features, Amazon's giving away 20 free audiobooks, including Kenneth Branagh reading "Heart of Darkness", and Tim Curry reading Dracula!"
