Chris Roberts Star Citizen nets a supposed $6,238,563 PC games not quite dead...

An anonymous reader writes "The whirlwind crowd funding campaign for Space Sim legend Chris Roberts new project has ended with a number that appears to have broken everyone's expectations. With the final totals coming in well over the record for the highest crowd funded video game ever.

How ever not long after funding ended the main Roberts Space Industries site has gone down for much needed maintenance with a thank you message for the successful drive. That goes on to detail the teams plans moving forward.

On the groups Kickstarter found here at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cig/star-citizen you can read backer comments speculating on the final tally as well as the thank you update featured on the RSI site.

It will be interesting to see if this is the correct number once the main page is back up on the RSI site."
