Gun Control: If it saves just one child....

pastafazou (648001) writes "A boy in Washington, DC was being viciously mauled by three unleashed pit bulls when a neighbor came to his rescue. Running into his house to fetch his handgun, the neighbor opened fire on the dogs. A nearby police officer, responding to the sound of gunfire, arrived on the scene and assisted in shooting the dogs. The boy, saved by the actions of the gun-sporting neighbor, is recovering in hospital with severe wounds. The neighbor, meanwhile may be facing charges."

Why even use a gun? (1)

Why did the neighbor not just go and kick the crap out of the dogs? It seems in the time it took him to go inside and get his gun, which should be safely stored in a gun safe when not in use, was precious time that only caused the boy to be more injured by the dogs...

Have you never been around a pack of dogs? Maybe all you've ever had was puppies?

Dogs individually can be mean or cuddly, but when they get in packs and start in on some cornered animal, they lose all sense. It's called pack mentality for a reason. If that guy had jumped in and started kicking them, he might have been just another victim for the coroner to cart off to the morgue.

Or maybe you too are afraid of guns and think they are much too dangerous to be allowed in civilian hands.

Either way, you are, excuse the pun, dead wrong.

I have been around all types of dogs. I know if you cause a bigger threat to the dogs than a helpless kid then they will leave the kid alone. I know how fast a dog can kill a child. There is no time to waste in running inside to unlock your safe, get your gun, run out and shoot the dogs. Just go after the dogs and take one for the team so the kid does not get hurt more.
