Dell goes private with $2bn help from Microsoft

nk497 writes "In a long rumoured deal worth $24.4bn, Michael Dell has taken the firm he founded private — alongside investment firm Silver Lake Partners and a $2 billion loan from Microsoft. Dell is investing his existing 14% stake as well as a "significant" amount of cash to buy back the PC maker.

Microsoft said it was getting involved because it saw an opportunity to "support partners who are committed to innovating and driving business for their devices and services built on the Microsoft platform"."
