Deluge: We are entering a new phase of fossil fuels

Lasrick (2629253) writes | about a year and a half ago

Earth 1

Lasrick (2629253) writes "Vince Beiser has a great piece explaining how, despite our concerns for climate change and the environmental degradation that comes from extracting fossil fuels, rapidly advancing technologies are opening up astonishing sources of oil and gas all over the world. We are entering a new era of fossil fuels that is reshaping global economics and politics—and the planet."

Denial and Greed. (1)

Some humans are in denial and others are selling investments in energy companies.

If the planet was truly awash in abundant fossil fuels do you think we'd be drilling in 5000' of ocean water, killing eleven men and almost ruining the Mexico in the process? Why would we be pressure washing sand in Alberta to get the oil off of it -- a dirty and expensive process.

If you replace "rapidly advancing technologies" with "increasing prices for crude" the linked article and others like it currently being pushed by business magazines make more sense.

If you read oil geologists instead of business writers you get a very different picture. I suggest www.theoildrum.com
