An anonymous reader writes "FLIRC is a one-man project from NVIDIA employee Jason Kotzin. It's a device that lets you use any IR remote control with any application on your computer, by making button presses on the remote appear to be characters typed on your keyboard. By emulating an input device, it works on any OS or device that can use a USB keyboard, and can be configured from Linux, Windows, or Mac OS.
But what makes FLIRC really special is why Jason created it: to help fund the USC Cancer Research Center, who saved his life during his own battle with cancer."
