Gunfire at MIT's Stata Center, Officer Dead

theodp (442580) writes | about a year ago

theodp (442580) writes "Earlier tonight, The Tech broke news that gunshots were reported at MIT near 32 Vassar Street (the Ray and Maria Stata Center for Computer, Information, and Intelligence Sciences), and one officer was shot and taken to Mass General Hospital. MIT's Emergency Information page also reports that injuries have been reported. From the midnight update, 'Police are sweeping the campus at this time, please continue to stay indoors and remain inside until further notice.' Sadly, CNN is now reporting that the university police officer has died. Look for updates on Twitter."

Thanks for the video and the scanner links, theodp. Fucking slashdot is dead. It's all on over at reddit. No one reads this fucking site anymore. I'm getting more news from your link to the police scanner feed than I can get anywhere else.
The Boston Globe is currently confirming that one of the MIT shooters is one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects: []

Why mod me down? Reply to me instead! /. mourira (1)

girlinatrainingbra (2738457) | about a year ago | (#43490367)

Why mod me down for what you don't like in my words? Reply to me instead! Theodp and I have been posting valid and accurate links on here to the primary sources at MIT and at the Boston Globe and to the scanner links. This wasn't being moved up to the front page. No one else was commenting on it.
The protocol is to reply rather than mod down. And then I find out there's much more to be read elsewhere. So you don't like it being pointed out that /. has much less traffic than it used to? Too fucking bad. Look at all of the positive elements actually posted on this thread, including the well thought out article summary posted by theodp. This should have been moved up earlier. Instead, I predict that a buddy of a high-ranking (or low-UID-ing) /. user will get to repost an article that says the same things and it'll be that copycat post that will get voted up to the front page. It's happening right now behind me, isn't it? :>)
C'est la vie, et pour /. ceci et cela seront le mort.

Screen capture: Suspects in Watertown are Marathon bombing suspects []

Re:WHDH (NBC Boston) Reporting Same (1)

girlinatrainingbra (2738457) | about a year ago | (#43490397)

Your screen grab says "killed". Were the suspects killed? The NY Times article [] does not say that yet.

Re:WHDH (NBC Boston) Reporting Same (1)

theodp (442580) | about a year ago | (#43490431)

That, I believe referred to the MIT officer. If I got things right, WHDH reported that one of the bombing suspects is dead, another is at large, and there may be another accomplice.

girlinatrainingbra (2738457) | about a year ago | (#43490393)
