McGruber writes "WHEC-Television broke the news (http://www.whec.com/news/stories/S3101080.shtml?cat=566) that the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has ordered that valet parking attendants search cars that are parked at the Rochester, NY airport.
WHEC's coverage prompted Bob Burns, the official TSA blogger, to claim that the report was false. In an official blog post, Burns says "While we deploy numerous layers of security, TSA officers are not inspecting cars or mandating that they be searched." (http://blog.tsa.gov/2013/07/false-report-tsa-airport-car-searches.html)
However, the original WHEC-TV indicated that the inspections were ordered by TSA. The reporter even quoted John McCaffery, TSA, who said, “No, those vehicles that are in the garage, short term long term parking, even if they carry pretty large amounts of explosives, they would not cause damage to the front of the airport. But for those who use the valet, the car could be there for a half hour or an hour so there is a vulnerability.”
McCaffrey "presently serves as the Federal Security Director overseeing the airports at Rochester and Elmira along with the other modes of transportation located between Lake Ontario and the New York/ Pennsylvania border." (http://secondopinion-tv.org/panelist/john-mccaffrey)"
