What are THE VERY BEST games to own? And it does not matter what console/system/phone based games you own. My question is...

I'd run for the old school, Civilization, Space Quest, Lemmings and Populous.

Here are my must play classics (1)

Starting with super-oldschool and progressing to kinda old: Best SNES cartridges: F-Zero & Mario Kart for totally addictive racing kicks. FF3 (US) and Secret of Mana for most nostalgic, amazing, immersive RPGS. The soundtracks to those games alone are worth a playthrough imo. advancing a few years.. Myst and Riven are total classics and worth your time, if you have the patience and can appreciate the CG of the times. These are like magical artifacts now. These games feel so analog compared to what's being churned out these days. Duke Nukem 3d!!! SO FUNNY AND AWESOME. if you can handle sprites (2d) this game is really hilarious and epic to play through. Strippers mutating into alien zombies that flash you if you hit spacebar. PIPE BOMBS and LASER TRIPWIRES and freeze guns and shrink gun. I had so much fun on dialup 1v1 in this game. Quake 1 (or Quake Live for a more updated version, which is free to play online) - total frag carnage. Total Annihilation and its spiritual successor, Supreme Commander. Really fun, addictive RTS. FF7 (Final Fantasy 7). Original playstation, or play on a PS2. Few video games have made me cry. Character design, plot, subplot, mythology - frequently comes up as best game ever made. FF9 is also really amazing, and includes a lot of old school throwback elements to the older FF games, like Moogles, wizards, etc. The games after FF9 are more high tech or concept gamey, which imo ruin the magic of the FF brand. (they also merged with Enix, considerably watering down their character design) Obviously it's impossible to come with a comprehensive list... fighting games like Tekken, all the sports games I didn't even touch on (like NBA Jam "He's on fire!!") ... but this is my personal shortlist. Especially with things like RPGs, we only have so much time. These are the games that really stick with me forever, games that I can't get rid of and still have copies in storage because I love them so much.
