An anonymous reader writes "The ATI binary drivers have received a great deal of scrutiny over the years, but this time around Phoronix is saying that "there is without a doubt a night and day difference" between the drivers from last year and this year. This article is dubbed ATI AYiR 2006 where all twelve display drivers out this year were tested and commented on. But at the end of the day the ATI drivers are still binary blobs running on an otherwise open-source system. The writer of this article does anticipate some major changes for the ATI drivers in 2007."
