New Milestone Demoscene Releases.

An anonymous reader writes "With over 3000 visitors one of the biggest computer festivals, the Assembly 2007, just closed doors. The event saw the release of some of the best demoscene productions of this year. Among them the first good demos for the XBOX 360, but also for platforms as obscure as the Atari VCS2600 from 1976. The main demo competition was won by Lifeforce, one of the most acclaimed demoscene demos ever. Other releases can be found here."

Some of these demoscene releases are just stunning. It boggles the mind what a computer can do (rendered in real time!) in the hands of the correct programmer. This is underground hacking at its finest.

If I owned a game-developing company and someone sent in that to me I would hire them on the spot. I mean, Jesus H. Christ!

The Fairlight demo blows dead goats (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 6 years ago | (#20123209)

For those who don't know Fairlight started as a bunch of assholes who cracked software. Their 3D engine is extremely inefficient and most of their demos choke on computers with less than 1GiB of ram. The precalc sucked for a 60MiB demo and it felt incoherent all the time. The ASD demo was way better and less demanding on the hardware area.

What's funny is, those idiots code for the Microsoft Piece of Shit platform which is incompatible, obsolete and has no future.

Fuck Fairlight and Microsoft.

The reason why we release for Windows is because we're too stupid to learn how to code on OSX or Linux. Since I've never done low level programming on platforms like C64 and Amiga I have now idea how to produce tight efficient code, hence the huge precalcs in all our productions.
