Chroniton (734481) writes "Using a tiny amount of argon gas plasma, a silicon valley company has developed a lightbulb the size of a Tic Tac that gives off as much light as a streetlight, but at full spectrum (CRI=91) and using less power. This new type of light burns at 6000K and gives off 140 lumens/watt, ten times as efficient as standard incandescent lamps, and twice the efficiency of LEDs. The new bulbs also have a 20,000 hour lifetime."

Long life projectors (1)

The company seems to be looking toward future long life projector bulbs. They need to step this up to 6500K for standard white temps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_temperature [wikipedia.org] Projector bulbs that last 10 times the current life are very interesting.

I believe when the other poster referenced 6000K, he/she wasn't referring to a color temp, but the hot spot at the center of the plasma (i.e. the same temp as the sun's surface). Their CRI = 91.
