Is KDE destined to die through good intentions?

Anonymous Coward writes | more than 5 years ago

KDE 0

An anonymous reader writes "In a recent Computerworld interview, Linus revealed that he's switched to Gnome — this despite launching a heavily critical broadside against Gnome just a few years ago. His reason? He thinks KDE 4 is a "disaster". Although it's improved recently, he'll find many who agree with this prognosis, and KDE 4 can be painful to use. Now that development work has effectively halted on KDE 3, and major distros like Kubuntu have made the complete switch to KDE 4, is it time for the KDE 4 developers to take stock, and look at what matters — end users? Is KDE heading in the wrong direction? In short, is KDE 4 a mistake? Slashdot possibly has the biggest userbase of KDE users anywhere on the Net, so this is perhaps the best place to debate what is quite a serious matter — the potential death by good intentions of one of the more venerated free software desktops."
