0racle Re:Fixing a leak with tape (423 comments)

Are you saying that there aren't windows 95/98/2000/older machines out there doing work? Because there are. This really is going to be a non-event.

Canonical's Troubles With the Free Software Community

0racle Re:systemd. That is all that needs to be said. (155 comments)

systemd is from Red Hat. It was adopted by other distros because they believed it solved a problem, not because Red Hat tried to tell others that they must use it.

Red Hat Hires CentOS Developers

Replacing systemd with smf and btrfs with zfs would be fantastic. Solaris 10 and OpenSolaris did so many things just right and Linux so wrong.

'Web Junkie': Harrowing Documentary On China's Internet Addiction Rehab Clinics

0racle Re:Hate so say it but... (94 comments)

I play less now because I'm bored with them since they're really the same rinse and repeat grind

Ya that happens to heroin addicts all the time. It's just the same damn high time after time, they get bored of it and stop.

Just admit you didn't have the self control to curtail something you wanted to do. Quit trying to hide behind some 'it's not my fault" excuse.

Surviving the Internet On Low Speed DSL

0racle Re:You poor baby (277 comments)

Then you both have crappy Internet connections. It is easy to say, "what are you complaining about, it's fine" when you've never had a good connection.

I said whining and I did it in an extremely condescending way, because the whole premise of the article is 'how will I ever survive on 1.5mbps.' It wasn't, 'this kind of sucks but oh well.' The article is whining like a little bitch for having speeds comparable to most of the rest of the US.

my home which has 150 down, 65 up

That's it? How ever do you manage, I would die if I was ever constrained so much. BTW you seem to be under the impression I've never used faster.

Surviving the Internet On Low Speed DSL

0racle You poor baby (277 comments)

OMFG how ever will you survive on 1.5mbps?

5 years ago where I live finally got DSL at 768bps. 2 years ago it actually got bumped to a maximum of 3mbps. WTF are you whining about?

The Business of Attention Deficit Disorder

0racle Re:The root of the problem... (246 comments)

they allow family doctors to diagnose ADHD and prescribe the meds at all

You wouldn't think about going to a psychiatrist to get a flu shot or cholesterol medication yet we are perfectly happy to go to any other doctor for psychiatric medication.

They're not qualified but they won't stop given their own egos and people won't see a psychiatrist when they should between the stigma associated with it and issues with insurance.

CBS 60 Minutes: NSA Speaks Out On Snowden, Spying

0racle Re:Stole exam answers? (504 comments)

This isn't a character attack, what he did was illegal. They don't need to stretch the truth here. They'll keep saying it because it is going to be on those grounds that he is dealt with and that detail is the only one many people think about.

That his actions were justifiable or moral or whatever you think of him doesn't change the fact that was he did was illegal, and that's the only true fact they have to work with.

Jury Finds Newegg Infringed Patent, Owes $2.3 Million

0racle Re: Stupid judge/jury. (324 comments)

It wasn't better marketed, it was created and made available by Diffie. That 'and' is important here. The British kept it secret that they even done it until '97. This is an example of parallel invention, only in this case one side made it known he had created it and the other didn't. For creating and publicizing Diffie is correctly attributed as the co-creator of Public Key Cryptography.

Science Museum Declines To Show Climate Change Film

0racle Re:Fixed summary for you (398 comments)

I have no idea of the value of the content of the film in question, but if the residents of NC don't want to have the rest of the world point and laugh at them, perhaps they should stop doing things and stop electing people that cause the world to point and laugh at them.

NC has earned all this derision.

AMD To Launch a Windows 8.1 Gaming Tablet

0racle Re:Aaaaand... queue the Microsoft slamming... (119 comments)

Windows 8 belongs on a tablet, it's quite easy to see how it would work well on one. On the desktop however, that is were it starts falling flat. Technically, Windows 8 under the user experience is an improvement, the tablet interface on a keyboard/mouse desktop on the other hand is not.
