If you read the bio you link to, it says he used to post as "Mr Pink Eyes" — so this guy has submitted a link to his own blog. Take with salt as necessary.

Obama Calls Today's Ubiquitous Gadgets and Information "a Distraction"

Ajaxamander Re:it wasn't a distraction last year (545 comments)

Actually, he spoke at the University of Michigan's graduation also, where he advised Beck & Limbaugh fans to read a Huffpost article or two, and Liberals to watch Fox News. He also advocated against name-calling like Fascist, Socialist and Teabagger, because once you've given someone a derogatory label, it's impossible to come to a compromise with them.

Adding Some Spice To *nix Shell Scripts

Ajaxamander Re:None, I have given up bash scripting (411 comments)

From my understanding, the reason it's called "My Computer" in Windows is to force (lazy) programmers to handle spaces in file paths. But that could just be a rumor.

Network Solutions Sites Hacked Again

Ajaxamander Re:A -SOLUTION- exists to web page/site hacking... (68 comments)

I guess you don't like being able to upload images/files to a web application.

This (or another in a litany of ) WP vulnerability usually involves uploading a php script which exposes a bunch of extra server-side functionality (download any file, list users, access MySQL dbs...) through WP's file upload manager, which WP seems slow to fix on occasion.

That said, there's no reason a developer couldn't do the useful part of your suggestion —run a checksum of their application files when the upload to the server, then use that to identify anything that's been monkeyed with. I might start doing that, actually.

But there's no way I'm spending a dime with YourHostingCompany(TM), which requires I make simple code changes via VPN. Will you give me SSH access, even?

Twitter updates Terms of Service

Ajaxamander Ajaxamander writes  |  about 5 years ago

Ajaxamander writes "Twitter just sent out an email notice that they are updating their TOS. First step toward yesterday's announced goal of money-making features.

The revisions more appropriately reflect the nature of Twitter and convey key issues such as ownership. For example, your tweets belong to you, not to Twitter. With these revisions, we expect some discussion so here are a few highlights from the updated page.
Advertising – In the Terms, we leave the door open for advertising. We'd like to keep our options open as we've said before...
