Terminal Mixup Implicates TSA Agents In LAX Smuggling Plot

AndrewNeo Re:10 punds of cocaine is going to endanger ... (255 comments)

So apparently doing something illegal is okay as long as it's not one of the items on the Security Theater checklist?

Blind Man Test Drives Google's Autonomous Car

AndrewNeo Re:Is this legal? (273 comments)

When you take your test on the roadway, I assume you have your permit, which means you can drive as long as you have another licensed driver in the car with you (at least, where I took my drivers training)

Cops Can Crack an iPhone In Under Two Minutes

AndrewNeo Re:Security just isn't a priority (375 comments)

Even with full disk encryption it's only a matter of time.

Of course it's only a matter of time, but so is the heat death of the universe, and neither that nor breaking 128 bit AES are happening any time soon. You're also implying that I can't go in and modify fastboot or recovery on my phone to prevent it from being pulled down, too.

Cops Can Crack an iPhone In Under Two Minutes

AndrewNeo Re:Security just isn't a priority (375 comments)

I'm curious how difficult it would be to have an alternate ROM for Android phones just have a 'USB toggle' that blocks access to the USB module entirely (add/remove kernel module?)

Ask Slashdot: Best Inexpensive VPS Provider?

AndrewNeo Re:Linode (375 comments)

Unfortunately Linode bills for the whole month and refunds you the proration, so you're still stuck with that amount as credit. If you have a full-time VM running and spin one up for a little bit this is fine, but if I really need something short-term I just use EC2 due to hourly billing.

Do You Have the Right Stuff To Be an Astronaut?

AndrewNeo Re:NASA is the world leader in what? (229 comments)

Maybe if they /had/ the money to sink down the drain we wouldn't be having this problem..

Google Maps To Charge For API Usage

AndrewNeo Re:Old News (141 comments)

Yeah, back when you had to register for an API key I could have sworn they already had this requirement. And of course everyone here is blowing it out of proportion.

Is Verizon Breaking FCC Regulations With Locked Bootloaders?

AndrewNeo Re:Whos fault? HTC or Verizon? (143 comments)

Motorola just claimed with the new 'RAZR' that it was specifically Verizon that is causing the bootloader to be locked, on Verizon's version of the phone.

Portal 2 Getting Map Editor

AndrewNeo Re:Klein bottle (26 comments)

There already is a map editor, it's called Hammer. The title is misleading, it should read Portal 2 getting In-Game Map Editor.

Android Source Code Gone For Good?

AndrewNeo Re:Too Early, comes with official update push (362 comments)

I'm sure the engineers would like to open source Maps and whatnot too. It's management/sales/lawyers that stop that kind of stuff from happening.

Android Source Code Gone For Good?

AndrewNeo Re:Too Early, comes with official update push (362 comments)

It's pretty much a fact Google sees the value in it, because their (perfectly valid and legal) initial decision to tell Cyanogenmod to stop bundling Google's apps (Maps, Market, etc.) soon turned into a "you know what, just download the bundle from us and it'll be fine"

Android Source Code Gone For Good?

AndrewNeo Re:Umm.... (362 comments)

There was no 2.0 official release? What the heck did my original Droid come with then? It was API level 5, and was quickly replaced with 2.0.1 (API level 6). 2.0 came out in November 2009, 2.1 didn't come out till January 2010. 2.0 doesn't have a dessert name as far as I can tell, though.

Nexus Prime, And Ice Cream Sandwich, Go For a Video Tour

AndrewNeo Re:falling ahead? (246 comments)

This was changed in Honeycomb, and therefore ICS. The UI is done in the GPU now, like it should be. They were also discussing a new emulator that's much faster due to using hardware GPU rendering instead of in software.

Type Safety Coming To DB Queries

Type Safety Coming To DB Queries

AndrewNeo Re:LINQ (128 comments)

You are most certainly not stuck (unless you're using query syntax, instead of method syntax) because all LINQ methods are just extension methods. A LINQ provider could easily add new ones.
