Your Entire PC In a Mouse

Andtalath Hidden computer (163 comments)

I really liked that the videos first argument was that if you aren't allowed to use your own computer, this one is easy to hide!

Seperate window.
It's an ugly work-around which disrupts focus workflows.

In Europe, you are not allowed to call something Chocolate without prefix (like milk chocolate) unless it contains 50% or more cocoa.

2014: Hottest Year On Record

Andtalath Re:Before or after? (560 comments)

Science is complex and verifying others research is the fundamental basic for science.

Making science more like science is good though.

And, no, the actual issue is people believing the Oil industries FUD.

Cause, you know, scientists making a decent wager are obviously more corrupt than people making a fortune.

Science Cannot Prove the Existence of God

Andtalath Re:agnostic atheist (755 comments)

I don't believe in any particular gods.
I don't rule out there existence though.

Even defining a god is nigh impossible, thus ruling out their existence seems absurd.

I do lean towards atheist though, but the reason I "switched" from atheist is basically because I consider it to irrational to have belief about things which are impossible to test.

The One Mistake Google Keeps Making

Andtalath Faulty assumption (386 comments)

Why would Google want to sell cars?

There is no real logic behind the idea of selling a car.
This opens them up to hackers messing with their own cars and doing weird stuff, making it legally complicated.

If they rent the cars, like a cheap taxi service?

Then they have full control.

I actually really like this idea to be the norm, not having to own cars would solve a lot of problems, especially bloody parking.

Science Cannot Prove the Existence of God

Andtalath Re:Well That About Wraps It Up For God (755 comments)

The difference?
People believe in God.

That's the issue.

Or, rather, they wish their imaginary superfriend to dictate how people live.

Designing the Best Board Game

Andtalath Re:Board games (155 comments)

My point is that RPGs with a focus on adventuring is not really lika a board game.
It's more of a way to try and play an epic fantasy book.

Designing the Best Board Game

Andtalath Re:Board games (155 comments)

RPGs are heavily based on locking down the probability but obfuscating it to a high degree.
It's too high cost to lose, thus, they are always designed to be be won about 95% of the time.

if not more.

One of the especially rough things is that the players generally can't adapt that much, either they do have what is required of them or they must flee, if possible.

FreeNAS 9.3 Released

Andtalath Re:Hardware requirements jumped WAY up now with ZF (115 comments)

I believe he just wants a simple NAS and doesn't care about all the awesome things about ZFS.

He considers snapshots, error-correction and such to be bloat.

FreeNAS 9.3 Released

Andtalath Re:Small NAS box suggestions? (115 comments)

If you need hot-swap, everything sucks or is crazy expensive for home usage.

If you don't, I can highly recommend a fractal node 304 chassi.
6 disk slots with good cooling options in a pretty small form factor.

Occasional users probably don't need photoshop.

It's a professional tool, not a simple image editor.

Ask Slashdot: Making a 'Wife Friendly' Gaming PC?

Andtalath Build a decent computer (720 comments)

Get a nice-looking large chasse like Fractal Design R4.

Don't go overboard with the graphics, a decent mid-ranged card every other year costs about the same as a top of the line every four years and produces about the same results over time.

Get good fans in all spaces.

Then it will be close to silent and won't look ugly.

In a Self-Driving Future, We May Not Even Want To Own Cars

Andtalath Will probably not be legal to own a car (454 comments)

When we reach a level where traffic is dominated by automated traffic, why would we even allow people on the roads?
Automated only means no stupid mistakes ever.

And more control for large players is quite popular as well.

So, not only will for hire be the norm, it will be the only alternative.

Website Peeps Into 73,000 Unsecured Security Cameras Via Default Passwords

Andtalath Re:Computer License (321 comments)

The correct solution is to build secure computers from the ground up.

First step?
Disable anything but an app store/repo unless the user unlocks insecure mode.
