DEA Cameras Tracking Hundreds of Millions of Car Journeys Across the US

Atrox666 Re:Cam-tastic (152 comments)

The fact that the populace tolerates government interference in their personal decisions is the problem.
The government has no legitimate right to decide what I can do with my body unless it's directly harming someone else.

Eric Schmidt: Our Perception of the Internet Will Fade

Atrox666 Welcome to the party (228 comments)

Marshall McLuhan was talking about this stuff in the late 60s when talking about how we lose perception of our context. “We don't know who discovered water, but we know it wasn't the fish.” I highly recommend "Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man"
People have a hard time understanding the methodology of the probe v.s. the argument but if you can wrap your head around it, it is a breathtaking vision.
It even talks about online news feeds like Slashdot..again in the 60s.

There is another book called "The Laws of Media" that explains that book.

Lawrence Krauss On Scientists As Celebrities: Good For Science?

Atrox666 Press is good (227 comments)

While people who move the course of humanity forward make less than people who chase balls for a living, more press is needed badly.
Imagine all the STEM people disappeared, humanity may collapse.

Imagine all the athletes disappeared...not really a problem.

What they need is for reviewers that screw up and reject good stuff or accept bad stuff, to have their statistical weight reduced.

Your Incompetent Boss Is Making You Unhappy

Atrox666 Re:How do you get good people to step up? (204 comments)

The boss in IT does not have to be technically competent but they have to be a techie for two reasons.

1) You have to be able to understand the lingo and the significance of it. I've had project managers that didn't know what a driver is. That was insulting and we had to drag this moron through the whole process.

2) If IT is run by non-techies then it's always a clusterfuck. It also tells your IT people that you think any schlub in a suit can just step in and do it.

Here's Why Apple Rejected Your iOS App

Atrox666 Re:Really? (145 comments)

This is why socialism revolves around workers owning the means of production.
This gatekeeper crap should be against the law. I should be able to sell my work to my customers and Apple should have no say in that transaction.
This is why I've only developed Android apps. I'm not real crazy about their censorship of their App store either but at least I have the option of side loading.

Tech Firm Fined For Paying Imported Workers $1.21 Per Hour

Atrox666 Oh no a slap on the wrist with a wet noodle (286 comments)

A company like this should be seized and auctioned off with the employees getting first refusal on any deal.
Any stock owners should be allowed to sue the board of directors for their loss.

Unless this kind of activity ruins careers then it will continue.

This is abuse, fraud and theft.

If the Mother and Father's DNA is pretty much identical..you might be a republican. If you have an extra Chromosome you're probably libertarian. Zygotes are never democrats until they're sure they've dodged the coat hanger.

Complain About Comcast, Get Fired From Your Job

Atrox666 Re:So, it has come to this. (742 comments)

It depends how fascist a state you work in. In some states they can fire you without reason making your freedom of expression guaranteed in the constitution completely moot. This is called At Will employment, it's sick and disgusting. It means that if you get fired for being gay you have to prove that it was because you are gay and not just because they felt like it.

Century-Old Drug Reverses Signs of Autism In Mice

Atrox666 Re:Godsend (207 comments)

I don't know if I'd take this drug. I'm over 40 and have learned to manage the downsides. I've also learned to use the super powers associated with mild cases of ASD.
I've had to learn to override the adrenal response which gives me the ability to act when most people just freeze up(e.g. artillery strike). I'm always having a stress reaction when I'm outside my own head so a little more doesn't really matter that much. I doubt it would fix my voice modulation (flat affect)and other mannerisms that have been ingrained. I wish you could try it before making it permanent.

Microsoft will issue one last Windows XP patch

Atrox666 Atrox666 writes  |  about 8 months ago

Atrox666 (957601) writes "Breaking up with dead operating systems is harder to do than Microsoft thought it would be. Microsoft announced on Thursday that it was issuing a critical patch for Internet Explorer that would be compatible with Windows XP versions of the Internet browser. The new patch for XP users comes even though Microsoft swore last month that it would stop issuing patches for any XP software unless users paid the company additional money to help keep support up."
