Lowering air resistance is something that is important to super cars, as it increases max speed.

Netflix Reduces Physical-Disc Processing, Keeps Prices the Same

Bill, Shooter of Bul Re:call them (348 comments)

http://www.forbes.com/sites/sa...

Netflix is choosing to fight back over rights fees, with original content, not disks.

There is often a disconnect between what makes sense to an informed individual, and what makes sense to people who bet with their money. Money is saying disks are dead, and rewarding streaming.

Netflix Reduces Physical-Disc Processing, Keeps Prices the Same

Bill, Shooter of Bul Re:call them (348 comments)

Yeah, well they were right on that one. Streaming is the future, Discs are the past for the company. That's where their future lies, that's where their priorites will be going forward. Their challange is to wind down the disc based service as quietly as possible to minimize consumer outrage, which would cause them to choose a different streaming service.

Verizon's Accidental Mea Culpa

Bill, Shooter of Bul Re:that's a stupid argument (390 comments)

All trafic is there because it was "Requested". Networks have always based peering based on traffic flows. If Level 3 has paid for X Petabytes of Transit per month, then that's what they get.

I understand the frustration on everyone's part, but this is mainly due to the oligarchy in local ISPs. If you had a choice, you could choose one based on the level of service they had for netflix. With Netflix being such a huge draw for people, it only makes sense that in a competitive ISP market, Level 3 would be able to get cheaper transport. And/OR ISP's would just be willing to get NetFlix to Colocate inside their network.

So yeah, verizon sucks. But the main reason is the lack of competition. I wouldn't change the way peering has always been done. Its like using a sledge hammer to kill a gnat.

Verizon's Accidental Mea Culpa

Bill, Shooter of Bul Re:Answer needed (390 comments)

The traffic isn't uniform in both directions. When it is, its an easy agreement. When its not, someone usually pays. Level3 offered to pay for the hardware to make additional connections.

But thats kind of like me telling verision that I'll pay for the router and won't charge them for using their network and expecting them to provide me with free service. There isn't enough of an incentive to allow them to agree to my free internet for Bill proposal. Same thing for most networks with unequal traffic patterns. Netflix is so big that any network they buy transit from, will cause their data flows to become unbalanced.

Verizon's Accidental Mea Culpa

Bill, Shooter of Bul Re:I disagree (390 comments)

Yeah, that would make sense. Verison's blog just had a small hidden reference to that. Its not immideatly obvious, probably because thats a difficult thing to explain to people not versed in peering agreements.

LibreSSL PRNG Vulnerability Patched

Bill, Shooter of Bul Re:'Vulnerability" is rubbish. (151 comments)

I don't know, this is pretty good plausible deniability. The only flaw is calling the function twice. That's easily hid in a program and doesn't look evil on first glance.

Massive Job Cuts Are Reportedly Coming For Microsoft Employees

Bill, Shooter of Bul Re:H1Bs first? (300 comments)

He's suggesting that those are the first ones let go. Which won't happen as those are the most expensive to let go. Its designed that way to help prevent the companies from abusing foreign workers, causing them to move here, only to let them go.

Bill, Shooter of Bul Bill, Shooter of Bul writes  |  more than 4 years ago

One of the worst things they've done to this site. I have *Friends* on facebook. I don't want them to know how much of a nerd I am. Furthermore, the slashdot stories aren't stories, they're summaries about stories. If I was going to post something about the topic to facebook, i would just link the source.

Negitive feedback

Bill, Shooter of Bul Bill, Shooter of Bul writes  |  more than 6 years ago

I've gotten a couple posts questioning the validity of my attempted humor. Some people really don't think I'm that funny. It only takes three different mods to hit +5 funny, and I myself have seen a few other people have posted that aren't that funny. In any case, I am my own worst critic. Several ones I've posted I didn't think deserve any attention at all. So, in the future, I'll try and limit myself even further, to truly post only what is really funny, rather than some things that I think might be funny.

For those who are annoyed with my sense of humor, just be glad I was filtering out a good 80% of what I thought to post. You're seeing what I consider to be the top 20% of my humor. I'll try and tighten that down to at least 10%.

Still confused about Freaks.

Bill, Shooter of Bul Bill, Shooter of Bul writes  |  more than 9 years ago I realise that every journal I've ver written is about freaks. Sorry, but I'm fasinated by them. Recently, I got two more. I'm just curious why anyone marks anyone as a freak. Anyone know? Any of my new freaks care to elaborate as to why they decided I was a Foe? I try to restrain myself from flaiming or posting anything too ofensive. If there is something I really feal strongly about that might offend someone I'll post it anyway, but I'll try to do so as clearly and logically as possible. I understand that everyone might not understand or agree with them, but I would think that they would respect the opinion and the manner it was presented in. Or do people just use Foes to demark those they disagree with? I understand using it for Trolls or those truely offensive, but why use it to censor those you disagree with? Are they so sure of themselves that they could never be wrong on an issue? Or are they afraid that they will read a well reasoned argument that makes them change their mind? Let me know, will you.
