Ask Slashdot: Which Router Firmware For Bandwidth Management?

BillTheKatt Re:Out of scope I think but.... (104 comments)

I second Mikrotik. I've deployed them to all the small branches in our company and at the core as well. You get an amazing amount of features for the price. You can also get smaller units that are perfect for home use and cost around the same as a home AP.

CyanogenMod 9 Working On the Nexus S

BillTheKatt You mean Droid 1? Re:droid3 (218 comments)

You mean when is it going to work on the Droid 1 right? You kids and your Droid 3's. Back in my day we had 550 mhz and 256 MB RAM and had to use it on the way to school in a blizzard, uphill both ways. Still rocking the Droid 1 with CM7, although this little puppy is getting slooooowww...

Bluetooth Versus Wireless Mice

BillTheKatt Re:RF vs Bluetooth Mice (519 comments)

You've probably got the mouse and keyboard too far from the transmitter. I bought a MS wireless keyboard/mouse combo and had the same problems. MS wireless devices seem to need to be extremely close to the transmitter, I'm talking 2-3 feet. Logitech products work from a far greater distance. Try moving the keyboard and mouse very close to the transmitter (couple of inches) and see if the problem goes away.

Testing the KDE 4.2 Release Candidate, On Windows

BillTheKatt Re:Sounds Great! (272 comments)

Strange. I downloaded Console v2.00 beta 142. When I run it on Vista SP1 it opens, but the text appears to be black-on-black. Setting the font color to white or any other color doesn't seem to help. Not sure if it's just me or not. Is KDE required? Sourceforge screenshots look great though!

WiMax Is Finally Coming — Here's How It Performs

BillTheKatt What about the latency? (112 comments)

I'd be interested to know what the latency was like. Bandwidth is just one component of performance. Poor latency and/or jitter means it wouldn't be very useful for VoIP or games.
