Digital Photocopiers Loaded With Secrets

Bombcar Re:Thats supposed to be obvious? (204 comments)

Most of them will start printing the copies of a multipage document as it is still going through the document feeder; and they'll keep printing the copies long after the last page was scanned.

That information has to be stored somewhere, even if there is no UI to get to it.

I've discovered that at least on modern Ubuntu, tar figures out compression itself: tar xvf file.tgz works without the z.

Why does grub suck?

Bombcar Bombcar writes  |  more than 7 years ago

GNU grub sucks. It can't boot drives over 2 TB because drives over 2 TB require a GPT partition table.

But lilo works.

Well, we did it.

Bombcar Bombcar writes  |  more than 9 years ago

Hopefully the Democrats will take this to heart, and begin to consider what they really stand for. It is becoming obvious that they don't reach out to the average American.

Here's a hint: drop gun control as an issue.

Today, we can strike a blow for Freedom!

Bombcar Bombcar writes  |  more than 9 years ago

We can look to history to show us brave men who have given their all for their country and their beliefs, dying on the battlefield of a thousand wars to defend freedom. From the depths of Valley Forge to the hills of Gettysburg to Iwo Jima, wars have been fought and men have died to give us the vote.

And today, we can preserve freedom in the world and support the fight for Democracy in the Middle East and an end to terrorism. All without risking our lives or firing a shot.

Vote today. And vote for Bush.

California Justice!

Bombcar Bombcar writes  |  more than 9 years ago

Well, I wrote a letter, and got a response:

Dear Mr. Dickson:

I have received and reviewed your letter dated October 13, 2004 concerning your observation of Enviromental License Plates, which contain the letters "FDUBYA", which you consider not appropriate for California license plates.

On occasion, the department approves a plate configuration because all meanings of the configuration are not known. The California Vehicle Code, Section 5105(a) states we must refuse any license plate configuration which carries connotations offensive to good taste and decency, or which may be misleading to some of our citizens. In this particular instance, because of your notification to our office, we are exercising our right to request the surrender of the license plates.

I hope you can appreciate how difficult it is to balance an individual's constitutional rights to free speech and expression while protecting the sensibilities of all segments of our population.

Thank you for your interest in the California Environmental License Plate Program. If you have any other concerns or questions, please contact Carl Goldwire, at (916) 657-xxxx.

Bought me some ketchup!

Bombcar Bombcar writes  |  about 10 years ago

I got some of the W Ketchup and it seems quite nice. Very quick shipping!

Recommended for anyone who claims to be against outsourcing and wants to "buy American."

Get your ketchup here!

Bombcar Bombcar writes  |  about 10 years ago

You can now buy ketchup without supporting the Heinz family or Kerry's campaign.

Interesting stuff. I might get some just because it's made in America.

Powerbooks are good

Bombcar Bombcar writes  |  more than 10 years ago

Powerbooks are very nice.

Unfortunately the airline bumped it, but as it is near the battery it just keeps working fine.

I really like the software; the underlying Unix makes it quite easy to work with.

Well, I did it.

Bombcar Bombcar writes  |  more than 10 years ago

It has happened. I've purchased a p-p-p-p-p-owerbook. Should be pretty nice, I think. And I guess I'll have to learn how to be a zealot!

But it shouldn't be too hard.... :)

Would you like a freight train with that?

Bombcar Bombcar writes  |  more than 10 years ago

It is done.

One fully operational Grover Products Train Horn. As seen on Amtrak. The best there is to offer. Now in a non-descript car near you.

Tourette's Syndrome Car Repairs?

Bombcar Bombcar writes  |  more than 10 years ago

Well, I finally got the oil pan replaced on the 300D. I also learned that while I'm working on a car, laying in oily water, and holding a flashlight in my mouth, I develop a severe case of Tourette's Syndrome. No doubt passing sailors could have taken notes to their advantage. I don't think I used the same epithet more than twice.

But it works now, so I am happy about that. We'll see what the Mobil 1 synthetic oil does for me. Otherwise, I'm driving the Fury III this weekend.

top Benz page added!

Bombcar Bombcar writes  |  more than 10 years ago

Well, it has been done. I added a new page to, but it's pretty boring. There may be more interesting things going on in the future, but for now, Benz is where it is at.

A new!

Bombcar Bombcar writes  |  more than 10 years ago

Yay! is now new and not yet improved! Hope it works out better; the last one weighed in at 15 megs compressed.

There will be updates over the next few weeks as we get it stable.

Be sure to look at the cat and see the eBay auction!

Joshua's Trumpet

Bombcar Bombcar writes  |  more than 10 years ago

Let there be noise!

Tomorrow will mark the (hopefully) final steps necessary to make the Horns of Fury sound. I only need the air compressor hooked up and a solenoid. Hopefully NAPA or AIRGAS will have the solenoid, otherwise, I won't be able to blow the horn from inside the car.

See horns

Is blogging useless? Does it help make you happy? Do people actually read the useless diatribes that emit from your fingers?

I guess I'll find out. Today's line of note is "Shorts suck. Use long longs instead." You've no chance of understanding, make your time. Unless you're a C programmer.
