Verizon Working On a La Carte Internet TV Service

Brad1138 Ala-cart, not all it is cracked up to be. (108 comments)

The problem with "Ala-cart" is, you can't get just the 1 channel you want, you get the "Viacom" channels or the "Turner" channels or the "Fox" channels etc. If you want just news channels you have to buy 3 or more channel "groups" to get Fox News, CNN, MSNBC (or whatever). There wont be a time soon when you can just order the specific channel you want, the parent companies wants all their programming sold together.

AT&T Says 10Mbps Is Too Fast For "Broadband," 4Mbps Is Enough

Brad1138 Re:Seriously? (528 comments)

I am sorry, but I would have to agree. Having more than 4 Mbps is nice, but not necessary for basic web browsing, youtube etc.

Windows 8.1 Finally Passes Windows 8 In Market Share

Brad1138 Re:The only reason (187 comments)

I like a few things about 8.1. I like 7 a lot, but I like the quicker boot in 8.1, I like some of the apps, the weather one in particular. From what I have read, 8/8.1 is better underneath and generally faster than 7.

Windows 8.1 Finally Passes Windows 8 In Market Share

Brad1138 The only reason (187 comments)

I started using 8.1 was I could install "Classic Shell" and make it more or less just like 7.

Retired SCOTUS Justice Wants To 'Fix' the Second Amendment

Brad1138 Re:Slippery Slope (1633 comments)

"What knives/cutters were used in the most recent stabbings"

What is so often is missed in statements like that are the results. The resent schools stabbing injured ~20, the most recent school shooting killed 20+. HUGE difference.

Retired SCOTUS Justice Wants To 'Fix' the Second Amendment

Brad1138 In a "perfect" world, or at least U.S. (1633 comments)

As an American, I would love it if we had a gun policy like Japan or UK etc, (ever hear of a drive by stabbing?) but the U.S. has been so gun crazy for so long and there are so many guns out there, getting rid of all them would likely be impossible. Not to mention the gun nuts that would rather go down shooting than hand over their guns. I just can not buy into, "more guns will make us safer"...

The words aren't just being added, it is a clarification of words that are already there.

How Did Bill Nye Become the Science Guy?

Brad1138 Give Bill a break... (220 comments)

I have always enjoyed Bill Nye. Watching him in his early days on his show and on a local Seattle show "Almost Live". He was witty and funny.

From Wiki: "He studied mechanical engineering at Cornell University (where one of his professors was Carl Sagan) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1977. Nye occasionally returns to Cornell as a professor to guest lecture introductory level astronomy and human ecology classes."

I would think that is sufficient education to be "the Science Guy". Why do we need to tear him down?

Sony Announces Virtual Reality Headset For PS4

Brad1138 Re:Nope. (112 comments)

Are you serious? The PS4 has nearly 2 teraflops of computational power. 1080P at 30FPS... a 5 year old Computer/video-card can do that.

Author Says It's Time To Stop Glorifying Hackers

Brad1138 Re:Also time to stop (479 comments)

That is the most ignorant post I have seen in a long time, I can not believe it got modded up. Comparing thieves to working people...

In most cases a hacker is nothing more than a thief and criminal, the article is correct, they should not be glorified.

That being said, someone like "Timothy McGee" (NCIS), that occasionally needs to hack something to save a life, etc... is the kind of "hacker" that is OK to glorify.

Unity/Gnome 3/Windows 8/iOS Do we really all hate

Brad1138 Brad1138 writes  |  more than 2 years ago

Brad1138 writes "You see complaints about all the "next gen" GUI's all over the place, but do we really all hate them? I don't like them, I tried very hard to like Unity in Ubuntu 11.04/11.10 before giving up and switching to Mint (I am very happy there currently). But is it the vocal minority doing all the complaining or is it the majority? Will these all crash and burn?"

Wikileaks is under cyber attack....

Brad1138 Brad1138 writes  |  more than 3 years ago

Brad1138 writes "The whistleblower website WikiLeaks is under cyber attack, but even if it goes down, a new cache of leaked U.S. diplomatic cables will still be published Sunday night, it said via Twitter Sunday. The announcements come shortly after the United States warned WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange that publishing the papers would be illegal and endanger peoples' lives. Would the US Government openly sponsor an attack like this? Wikileaks is down as of this submission."

Proof of Live on Mars?

Brad1138 Brad1138 writes  |  more than 6 years ago

Brad1138 writes "From an article on BBC, a magnified version of the picture, posted on the internet, appears to some to show what resembles a human form among a crop of rocks. This looks a lot more compelling than the Mars face. Could this be proof of extra terrestrial life?"
