The Hidden Cost of Your New Xfinity Router
Would have to "fake" the Comcast SSL creds as well. They, Comcast, might be greedy and stuff, but I can't believe they would be so incompetent as not to use SSL.

I Want a Kindle Killer
Wait, what??? Your kindle does not have those apps? I guess you must mean "not when I first took it out of the box", because there were few Android apps that I couldn't load on my Fire.
Of course, if you mean a "Kindle paperwhite" ... you are right.

You Are What You're Tricked Into Eating
If I made that food for $5/plate ... I may as well go to a restaurant, where I pay only a bit more and have the whole experience.
For a simple dish like that if your cost is more than $2.50, you're doing something wrong. (West coast of the US retail prices. If you do your shopping at Costco/CashAndCarry/Winco/ethnic supermarket you should be able to get it well under $2/plate.)
The Verge: Google Is Working on a TV Box Of Its Own
Absolutely. However, this could provide decent content for my projector. (Once you've experienced a properly set-up system with a 240" screen, you will never want to look at a TV.)
Amazon's Fire TV: Is It Worth Game Developers' Time?
Given the benefits of Plex - automatic download of info, sorting, presentation, etc, etc - and the fact that it runs beautifully on a power sipping pogoplug - running Debian, or Archlinux - there is no reason not to run Plex. There are many other benefits in having a very low power box running Linux.
Goodbye, Google Voice
Some third party apps still work. Most will no longer do so after the middle of May.
My OBi202 is one, and so is GroovIP, and so on and so on. Bummer, for sure, but other free, or nearly so, alternatives do exist. So, in the end ... shrug.
Ars Technica Reviews Leaked Windows 8.1 Update
I use Win8. All my stuff is on my HDDs. There is no reason you HAVE to use the cloud.
Yes, you have to actually open BOTH eyes and even get more than two neurons firing at the same time when setting things up, but it's not at all mandatory to use the cloud.
Dear Asus Router User: All Your Cloud Are Belong To Us
>but the majority of end-users just want shit that works.
Exactly why I load Tomato on any router I set up. Of course this assumes the person I do it for bought a router I recommended, or I used one of mine.
Tomato's "access restrictions" are dead easy to set up, and it's a simple, quite efficient, first line of defence to keep kids in line. I can show even clueless parents how to setup a "no internet after 21:30" rule, or block specific domains by keywords.
Most of this is not easily achievable with OEM firmware.

And I'll buy it from you. So, go ahead build me a AIO that looks as good as that Dell, and is a "much better rig", and I'll pay you the $2100.
Calibre Version 1.0 Released After 7 Years of Development
Seems a lot of people are critical of Calibre. OK, it's not perfect. However, I also can't help but notice that no one is saying something like "It sucks because of "X" and "Y" and "insert application name here" is a much better choice. Or, better yet "It sucks because of "X" and "Y" and I am days away from releasing my app witch will take care of all the issues and ..."
Fucking gimmegimme generation.
Ask Slashdot: Is an Online Identity Important When Searching For Technical Jobs?
Depends on how much $$$ he is getting for those 80 hours, and why he does it. (Do that for two years so you can pay off your house ... Good. Do that because you have no life ... Not so good.)

That's exactly what I was thinking. That, and how many hits my CC camera clips would get on youtube ... if you know what I mean.
