Windows 8 Sales Below Projections

CheshireFerk-o Re:microsoft looks to have fired to architect of w (663 comments)

that is so twisted and counter productive its not even funny. really?! middle of the title bar? why not far right corner to close and far left to minimize, that would go with the crap m$ have been shoving down our throats since we got out of DOS, kinda. having used windows since than i wouldnt even begin to think about the center of the title bar and resort to alt-f4, atleast they didnt take that away, yet....

The FSF's Campaign Against the Nintendo 3DS

CheshireFerk-o yarr, blame the pirates (187 comments)

Nintendo and makers of games for the DS line lost out on billions of dollars to easier-then-windows flashcarts. This kind of user monitoring is what they came up to combat that, I for one don't care at all if they know how long i use what software on my 3DS. Sure there are thousands of other uses for this hardware brewing out there already and thats all fine and dandy, just expect to loose the ability to use any official software. This is something I can almost agree with, but in the future we could say get debian running on one, I'd buy another one for my non-nintendo use. I see most of the data they record being used for marketing purposes internally at nintendo, and they've been doing it a long time. So I don't really mind my 3DS phoning home unless its going to include what websites I went to on the browser, than I might have to limit its usage.

Porn Reportedly Found At Bin Laden Compound

CheshireFerk-o Re:Too cynical? (537 comments)

You are not thinking republican enough than! Just like a stance against/for abortion nets them a few thousand votes, if in 50 years from now this was proven to be made up by media/gov, I for one would not be surprised at all.

I've always browsed at -1 and still have a negative karma, for a long long time now, and yes you are a fanboi. Apple is the Ministry of Information, they will choose which information you receive. Now go hop into a memory hole.

Australian Police Ask Facebook For Police Alarm Button

CheshireFerk-o Re:Because this totally (237 comments)

Indeed this is true, and mostly the reason I do not use facebook. There is not really a way to browse people of like interests, just connections of/and friends... why the hell would I want to talk to people online i already know? So they can spam me with .gifs and farmville....????

The point: You can only connect with people you accept to a list. If you feel the need to press that said button, someone else probably thinks that about you.

ACLU Sues To Protect Your Right To Swear

CheshireFerk-o Re:No surprise (698 comments)

O hell no, in fact if you have a six-pack/convenience store you must have a separate entrance/exit for the beer section, with separate registers. I don't think we'll ever see liquor/wine outside of the state stores especially where the children can SEE it... damn quaker state

Neil Armstrong Criticizes Obama's Space Strategy

CheshireFerk-o Re:Who has more clout these days? (508 comments)

wow man do you really not live in the 80's? Obama's next agenda is finical reform.... and as for NASA, damned right let the private sector fund and R&D the tech, then the gov't takes/improves it with cash. I do say we need a manned 'shuttle' for routine in-orbit missions, but a craft of better design an saftey so a launch will not be a big deal, as if it were already, and we can fix the hubble and go to the ISS. and as for you sir, politics is politics, and we dont talk politics or religion here.....

A Skeptical Comparison of HTML5 Video Playback To Flash

CheshireFerk-o Re:Agreed (391 comments)

it sure does, if you have an 8xxx+ card and flash 10.1 beta... i have a 7600gt agp, 195.x nvidia beta drivers, and the vdpau libs installed, for some reason i can now play youtubeHD without stutter and the flashplayer load is very much spread even over my four cores.

Accidental Wii Suicide

CheshireFerk-o Re:Suicide? (1343 comments)

That was my first thought, when read that it was a stepchild. What if this child was abused and unwanted by the new family? It reads like a plot from CSI/law&order, but when i first read the summary I thought, "those clever bastards...." Good Luck to anyone trying to prove this to not be an act of stupidity.

Matt Asay Answers Your Questions About Ubuntu and Canonical

CheshireFerk-o Re:buggy stuff (244 comments)

It sounds like your problem might be with sudo. have you tried logging in as root on a terminal, or su to root in a term. I've had all kinds of GUI crap reject my passwords.

Maybe you should try Debian, its what ubuntu is built off of and actually works!

Aussie Attorney General Says Gamers Are Scarier Than Biker Gangs

CheshireFerk-o Re:Oh, great; there's MORE of these wackos? (409 comments)

I enjoy this effect of them tip-toeing around us, makes for some rather interesting situations. I've been doing personal social experiments since as long as I can remember, just simple things to see what reaction I could arouse. But I've got to say from being picked on as a child to being feared for my IQ in adult life, this is a hell of a lot more fun!

In fact I still use the following...

deb testing non-free

I've been using debian for over 9 years now, and running unstable/testing, I've only installed the OS twice. Once at birth and once on the switch to raid. Not once have I had a problem doing pretty much whatever I want it to do.
