Why You Can't Dump Java (Even Though You Want To)

ChocNut Flash, popularity and death (402 comments)

Lol - Java was the next obvious route of mainstream development after Flash was killed off. As a flash designer all I can do is laugh. The Google/Oracle case is just the cherry on top. We use every platform until we kill it then we move on to the next best.

DARPA-Funded 'Cheetah' Breaks Speed Record For Legged Robots

ChocNut Banned weaponry (96 comments)

Developing killer robots will be illegal in the future (if we survive that is). Common sense dictates that we should pre-emptively make this illegal now and save ourselves some serious pain.

It's called an electric car FFS. Internal combustion engines should be illegal at this stage.

Using GPS To Detect Secret Nuclear Tests

ChocNut WMDs (54 comments)

Can someone explain to me why North Korea is allowed to test nuclear bombs in full view of the planet but trillions were spent on wiping out a mere hint of WMDs in Iraq?

New Video Brings Portal To Life

ChocNut Totally Rad Show (137 comments)

Dan Trachtenberg from TRS was responsible for this. It just goes to show that just because you're a critic/fan of movies and games doesn't mean you can't create great stuff yourself! Kudos

Canadian Firm Gave Libyan Rebels Surveillance Drone

ChocNut Re:This trend will accelerate... (165 comments)

Maybe you Americans should heed this warning: Evil begets evil. Maybe if you didn't invest trillions of dollars you haven't earned into "defensive" technology humanity would have greatly reduced weapons development globally. Nah, keep building those nukes. It's the only way to be sure eh?

See if pay per view offered legal combat settlements I'd sign up in a second. They'd need to keep it fresh though (think judge judy mixed with gamesmaster).

Sony Reportedly Ends PSP Go Production

ChocNut NGP (47 comments)

Saw this coming the day I first set eyes on it. Slide-out design is awful. The NGP looks great - hopefully they will allow you to clone the ps3 video-out wirelessly to play games in close proximity to the console. My guess is this is what nintendo have up their sleeve for the wii2.

How has your opinion on the safety of nuclear power changed after the events in Japan?

ChocNut Contaminating the environment of our descendants (1148 comments)

No surprises here. Japan won't be a Chernobyl but hopefully it serves as a little reminder that by creating radioactive waste we are leaving a nightmare legacy to future generations. How will they clean the air and the toxic rivers? Anyone? Magical fairy dust methinks. Stop wasting money on nuclear energy and invest in renewables. Nuclear is short term gain only which is why you hear so much about it from capitalist profit seekers (who don't see the big picture, just their next paycheck).

Teachers Back Away From Evolution In Class

ChocNut Re:Slow news day?? (947 comments)

I know that. The problem is, most childrens teachers don't.

As you say, some of this falls into the theology territory (how are we here) and this needs to be acknowledged by those who want evolution taught at school. Religious classes are important here.

So much scientific doctrine is just as faith based as the major religions. There are factions which argue over tiny but significant details and there are plot holes everywhere.

What I'd love to see is an encyclopedia from 2500. What will the beliefs about the universe and the nature of our reality be then?
