How We'll Get To 54.5 Mpg By 2025
Just have the automakers buy a controlling interest in the bicycle manufacturers. Enough to include one bicycle in their numbers. The undefined miles per gallon of gasoline will throw the whole system into disarray. This was tried by including electric cars in the equation, but those figures can still be traced back to a gallon on gasoline, no matter how small the fraction of each burned gallon of gas used to generate electricity would be.
Of course this is also ruined if the cyclist is huffing gasoline fumes.
Does Higher Health Care Spending Lead To Better Patient Outcomes?
Agreed...why is this on slashdot?
Object Lesson in Non-Transparency At Energy.gov
I would be interested to see your facts that back this up (spent naval nuclear fuel reprocessed and reused in domestic, commercial nuclear power plants).

I don't know much about it, but isn't that the basis of Google's Chrome OS?

Microsoft Suggests Heating Homes With "Data Furnaces"
When I was a Facilities Engineer I had a lot of problems with people placing their desktops/laptops with the exhaust facing the zone thermostat. I would get calls that they were freezing cold and alarms that zone temperature was too high because the thermostat was reading the exhaust tempreature.
Can a Playground Be Too Safe?
I would say it has less to do with the daughter's 'perceived fragility' than the fathers knowing what is ( or is not) going on in other boys heads at that age.
Neuromancer Movie Deal Moving Forward
Probably could also try Earth by David Brin and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein. I'm reading Zero History by William Gibson.
NSA Advises Upgrade To Windows 7
My in-laws, who are in their late seventies and have never owned or used a computer, learned Vista on a laptop. Probably far worse than giving them a machine with ubuntu loaded on it. I think I would probably have had fewer 'service calls' on an ubuntu machine.

EADS Bicycle Made of Steel-Strength Nylon
Calfee Design has traditionally been known for it's custom carbon fiber frames (I own one), but the founder, Craig Calfee, has done a lot of work teaching citizens of less-priviledged countries how to manufacture bamboo bicycles.
Split Screen Co-op Is Dying
I agree with this and add the fact that some of us with young children don't really want them to see some of the violence in the games we like to play. I don't really want my young children to go to bed while visions of splicers dance in their heads.
Typewriter Hacked To Play Zork
With a little bit of accessorizing, this would make a cool steampunk gadget.
Huge Shocker — 3D TVs Not Selling
I don't think they were. I purchased a Samsung ATSC tuner equiped HD CRT when my 14 year old Mitsubishi CRT finally died. Resolution goes up to 1080i (not that that makes a big difference relative to the size of the TV). I think it was one of the last ones in the store still in the box. It's a great TV, with HDMI, Composite, and Standard AV connections. It's still tough to beat the color and B/W contrast from a CRT.

Fun To Be Had With a 10-Foot Satellite Dish?
When I was a kid, we used our neighbor's dish as a really cool slide. It was propped up against a tree, and we would try to climb up to the top to slide down. I'm sure I ripped up a couple of pairs of corduroys on it.
Might not be as fun as an adult now, but still cool.
Excellent post. Too bad I don't have any mod points. This is what I took away from the finale, and I think I will have to reference it after my wife watches the rest of it.
Cellulosic Biofuel Finally Ready For the Road
In addition, not everyone works during daylight hours. Try working second or third shift and hoofing it or utilizing public transportation. The schedules are reduced, the weather is awful, you'll get mugged, or any number of not so pleasant consequences.
