Canadian Regulator Threatens To Impose New Netflix Regulation

Trailer Park Boys for example now only available on Netflix due to Netflix financing seasons 8 and 9 (plus however many more).

What other Canadian shows would be worth brining back as Netflix exclusives?

Movie Review: Ender's Game

Chubby_C Re:It's a shame homophobephobes won't see it (732 comments)

Agreed, I just did not understand why it is so highly rated as a sci-fi book. I found it an enjoyable read, but far from the best thing I've read in either sci-fi or military fiction.

The Case Against Gmail

Chubby_C I actually had to read the article... (435 comments)

Since the summary was kinda useless.

I'm not quite sure that this sentence below works to provide the perspective he wanted to convey

To put its age into perspective: Gmail is older today than Hotmail was when Gmail made its debut a decade ago.

So, Hotmail was less than 10 years old, 10 years ago...?

New York City Considers Articulated Subway Cars

Chubby_C Re:Why one Toronto subway driver doesn't like them (237 comments)

My biggest complaint about the new trains is that when I take my 3-year old daughter on a train ride she can't look out the front window like she does on the older models. The double sets of windows at the front of the train don't let enough light through to look through the door.

Why Apple Doesn't Market Squarely To Businesses

Chubby_C Re:Docking station? Who cares? (510 comments)

Unless you're using a laptop stand a laptop is horrible ergonomically to work on, even with external keyboard and mouse the monitor is the big contender - too low for proper use.

I love my docking station, I have my keyboard, mouse, network all hooked up along with two 22" monitors, drop my laptop in and power it up and I'm ready to roll. Without the docking station I could only drive one external monitor and would have to use the laptop monitor as my second screen.

The laptop itself provides the flexibility to work from home, in meetings or travel.

CES Vendors Kicked Out of Hotels For Showcasing Wares in Room

Chubby_C Re:So... (285 comments)

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to describe it as such?

Walmart opens up in a town (CES booking conference center) Space leased from a property management company (hotels drive business from vistors)

Random other people show up who don't want to lease storefront space in the same plaza as Walmart but rather decide to start selling their wares from a van in the parking lot of the landlord (Business setup in hotel rooms that are driving business from CES)

Landlord chases out those who are competing with their bread and butter customer - Walmart (CES & its guests)

Sure those who are visiting Walmart/CES may like to see what the other vendors are selling but doesn't bode well for the landlord to allow the competition.

Does this analogy even make sense? I'm not too sure myself now, they're tough to write sometimes.

What SciFi Should Get the Reboot Treatment Next?

Chubby_C Re:Twilight zone (922 comments)

It's funny that this comes up as I've been thinking about some of the classic sci-fi novels sitting on my shelf and wondering if I should give the Foundation trilogy another read. Now I may just to see if it has held up, its probably been 15 years since I last read them.

Incandescent Bulbs Return To the Cutting Edge

Chubby_C Mercury Content of CFL bulbs (569 comments)

People are a little too concerned about the mercury in these bulbs with no concept of the amount that is contained within. I oversee the reclaim program for our office campus and I'll give you the breakdown from last year's bulb recycling efforts:

1,982 lamps/bulbs recycled

a total of

495.1 kg of glass

5.85 kg of metal

7.4 kg of phosphor

0.073 kg of mercury = 73 g = 2.575 oz

That's what is generated from 4 buildings in one year.
