Microsoft Aims To Offer Windows 10 Upgrades For All Windows Phone 8 Lumias

ClaraBow Re:for free? (77 comments)

What they are going to over is a discount on a new windows 10 phone! So even if you have a broken windows 8 phone, you can trade it in for a windows 10 phone at a price of course. It's all marketing spin and hyperbole! That's what I read between the lines.

Samsung Paid Microsoft $1 Billion Last Year In Android Royalties

ClaraBow Re:Nevertheless, Microsoft is doomed (93 comments)

Really?

MS has a much wider product line than you imply. Using Skype perhaps?

True, but many of their products don't make money. MS Office is their cash cow and Windows OS is the field upon which the cash cow grazes.

That Toy Is Now a Drone

ClaraBow Re: They're infringing my Second-Amendment drone r (268 comments)

Amendment II: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. -- It's very clear and there is little room for interpretation here. But as we all know, the constitution is a lot like the bible, everyone has his or her own take! Charles Bukowski said it best, “The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.”

UK Government Pays Microsoft £5.5M For Extended Support of Windows XP

ClaraBow Re:What linux will never be able to do (341 comments)

A bargain? I think it's rather expensive since Microsoft are just writing a few security patches as needed. Does it really cost 9 Million dollars to keep a very small team of programs writing patches for XP and Office 2003? Oh, and guess what? MS can sell the same patches to other companies that need XP supports! I believe this is going to be a big money maker for Microsoft.

Transhumanist Children's Book Argues, "Death Is Wrong"

ClaraBow Re:Irresponsible or what? (334 comments)

I'd be more optimistic about this scenario, if we could at the very least stop killing ourselves over silly things like religion and oil. Only then would I be hopeful about a possible future with unlimited resources. We use a vast of our recourse to secure imaginary borders and fight or our imaginary God! No so hopeful :(

Transhumanist Children's Book Argues, "Death Is Wrong"

ClaraBow Re:Irresponsible or what? (334 comments)

Sounds crazy, but that is exactly what would happen! Once we start running out of resources and space, we go into survival mode and revert to what ever it takes to survive -- if it means killing, so be it!

Opera Mini makes it to the iphone/iPad

ClaraBow ClaraBow writes  |  more than 4 years ago

ClaraBow (212734) writes "Opera Mini makes it to Apple's App Store. Macworld reports that Apple approved an iPhone version of Opera's Mini Browser. Opera announcement that it had submitted the browser to Apple for approval on March 23 was, unsurprisingly, met with a fair amount of skepticism; in a bit of App Store mockery, the company even set up a web page to keep track of the amount of time during which the app had been in the approval process. The final tally: a little less than three weeks. Many industry observes doubted that the browser would be approved by Apple as it has rejected similar Apps on the grounds that it duplicated iphone functionality. Most Slashdot readers, myself included, strongly believe that it never would be approved, but we were wrong! Maybe this will open up the possibility that Firefox mobile will make to the iphone — one can only dream!"

Google Maybe sued over Nexus One

ClaraBow ClaraBow writes  |  more than 4 years ago

ClaraBow (212734) writes "Google could be sued by the family of author Philip K Dick, the man behind the book Do Android's Dream of Electric Sheep, which Blade Runner was based. At the moment the family wants to have talks with Google about a possible settle , I venture to guess. It will be interesting to see how this pans out! It does seem as if the Nexus One alludes to the more advanced Nexus 6 Android in the book as if it is a direct decedent of the later models. It will be Interesting to see if Google eludes a lawsuit."

Google, Apple, Microsoft sued over file preview

ClaraBow ClaraBow writes  |  more than 5 years ago

The article states that Cygnus applied for its patent (# 7346850) in 2001. It covers a "System and method for iconic software environment management" and was granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in March of this year."

Multi-touch video iPods to arrive in August - repo

ClaraBow ClaraBow writes  |  more than 7 years ago

ClaraBow writes "AppleInsider reports that according to DigiTimes "Apple is preparing to launch a next-generation video iPod in August that features a touch-screen panel similar to the iPhone." AppleInsider reports that, "During a private meeting last month, Apple's traditionally tigh-lipped chief executive Steve Jobs all but broke the silence on the future of the video iPod. Speaking to employees at the Apple Town Hall, he said a division of the company was hard at work on next-generation iPods that, like iPhone, would run an embedded version of the Mac OS X operating system." It will be interesting to see if this pans out and most importantly what form factor the devices will take. I'm thinking an iphone look and feel without the "phone""

ClaraBow writes "Apple reports that it took Apple just two days to reach 1 million downloads of its newest Safari Web browser for Windows. If these downloads manifested into regular Safari users, then we just might have a third major browser on the Windows platform. If safari can obtain a 10% market share on Windows, then it would further weaken IE's position and give standards based browser more leverage with developer. It isn't good having any one company controlling the way the web works."
