Mozilla Plans Fix For Critical Firefox Vulnerability In Next Release

Clover_Kicker Re:Your official guide to the Jigaboo presidency (140 comments)

With the language the same in every single post, why doesn't slashdot just filter this out to the garbage before it gets posted.

Yes, because no-one would change a word or two in their post or do variations on the spelling. Yay, we get to have another lameness-filter style arms race, that'll improve the quality of the posts.

Maybe we should have a "-1 hate crime" mod, and the overlords can determine what to do with it. As it is, I only see myself or other mods pushing it down, thus wasting one of my mod points whereas I can be modding someone "+1 interesting" instead.

Maybe you should grow a skin and realize that you can't win this kind of pissing contest with griefers.

Seriously, just ignore it.

This very moment, some guy in his mom's basement has his pants down fwapping away to your outrage. You've provided motivation for gods know how many more cut'n'paste trolls, because you provided the kind of hysterical reaction they find so entertaining.

Good job, internet tough guy.

Clover_Kicker Re:Your official guide to the Jigaboo presidency (140 comments)

With a small amount of work you can post from a different IP address every time.

Or it might be a dozen different losers cutting and pasting the same thing.

BTW, a reaction like yours will keep them motivated and posting, thanks ever so much.

Using Classical Music As a Form of Social Control

Anyone with your impeccable cool credentials probably doesn't buy their coffee at a chain like Tim Horton's anyway, so they're not out anything.

Using Classical Music As a Form of Social Control

Clover_Kicker Re:A Clockwork Orange (721 comments)

I doubt it, they don't want to repel the "olds".

A local coffee shop has done this for years. They're a little too close to the high school for comfort, so they installed a speaker outside playing classical/light jazz.

The people who actually want to buy coffee don't mind the music, and now they don't have to elbow their way thru clumps of teenagers standing in front of the door.

I'm not so happy about using it in detention, but I'm sure if I was a high school teacher I'd flip out and strangled someone on the first week, so I probably shouldn't throw stones.

Hackers Target Tsunami Search Results

Clover_Kicker Re:Can someone explain this to me (57 comments)

Looks like someone at google has noticed and is cleaning their search results. Here's one from the images.google search, which now has been "reported as an attack page".

Hackers Target Tsunami Search Results

Clover_Kicker Re:Can someone explain this to me (57 comments)

No, but your browser can show fake dialog boxes and try to trick you into downloading and installing an executable.

Google "hot russian olympic curling chicks" and try a few links, I was looking for a pic to post on another forum and it seems every second google hit has a javascript bomb attached.

Defending Against Drones

Clover_Kicker Re:They have *already* crossed an ocean (368 comments)

They don't want to deny the West our freedoms, they want to pester and harass and annoy us so that we [get out of %country1%|stop supporting %country2%] or whatever.

The US didn't leave Vietnam because they ran out of young, able-bodied men to send over, they left because they decided it wasn't worth the hassle. More hassle == Yankee Go Home.

Why Are There No Popular Ultima Online-Like MMOs?

Clover_Kicker Re:They've become games not worlds (480 comments)

Does it matter is there are 3 servers full of people you'll never meet in game, or 200?

It matter if the publisher decides the game isn't profitable, how many MMOs have gone away in the last few years?

I'd love to spark up my Hellgate London Summoner and farm heads, but the servers are long gone.

.CA registrar trying to pre-empt conficker

Clover_Kicker Clover_Kicker writes  |  more than 5 years ago

clover kicker (20761) writes "The CBC reports that the group managing Canada's .ca internet domain is working to foil an internet worm set to attack starting April Fool's Day.

"This is the first virus that's really focused on domain names as part of propagating the virus itself." said Byron Holland, CEO of the Canadian Internet Registration Authority, a non-profit organization that represents those who hold a .ca domain.

CIRA's strategy includes pre-emptively registering and isolating previously unregistered .ca domain names that Conficker C is expected to try and generate, said a news release issued by the group.

That would make those names unavailable for anyone to register in order to set up a website to host the worm's "command and control" file. A list of the names has been predicted by security experts based on the worm's code.

In addition, CIRA is investigating and monitoring activity at names on the list that have already been registered and will "take appropriate action if suspicious activity is detected.""
