Saints Row IV Announced

Conchobair Re:Is this really news for nerds? (63 comments)

It's not as much a clone as it is similar at this point. GTA has become more realistic, and SR is just over the top craziness.

US Supreme Court Says Wiretapping Immunity Will Stand

Conchobair Re:Obama's kind of been a dick about this (203 comments)

I'm voting 3rd party. You're telling me that's a vote for Romney and Romney supporters tell me that it's a vote for Obama. So, by everyone's count I've got three votes now. That sounds pretty awesome to me.

Ask Slashdot: How To Introduce Someone To Star Trek?

Conchobair TNG (634 comments)

TNG, but the first season is pretty slow so show some of the better ones at first like Darmok, Ship in a Bottle, or the ones with Q. If she likes it go back to the beginning and see if she can follow from there. After that usually DS9, then it's really it's personal preference from there. TOS is good, but it's really dated so a lot of people actually skip it or watch it last.

NASA Shuttle Discovery Set To Buzz Washington, DC

Conchobair Shuttles in Science Fiction (65 comments)

It really hit home how sad this was when I was watching Stargate SG-1 and they had to send up a space shuttle to get Jack O'Neil and company out of a stranded alien space craft in orbit. I then realized in current times, the use of a space shuttle would be part of the science fiction.

It's been pony for a long time. http://biobreak.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/ghostcrawler.jpg The moose thing comes from the Canadian Winter Olympics when they didn't add a pet for it like they did for the Chinese Summer Olmypics 2 years earlier.

NASA Reveals Hundred Year Starship Program

Conchobair Re:Tiny Flaw In the Plan (351 comments)

The proposal of a one-way tripe has been around for a long time. From what I have read, most, if not all people in the field that are qualified, would be willing to volunteer to go. And why not? You would be one of the first people to set foot on an alien world. You would be history. Movies would be made of your life. Ego aside, the experience would be amazing. You'd see things no other human ever has and discover things that could possible change the way humanity looks at itself. This would be one of the most epic journeys mankind has undertaken. Many qualified sane people would willingly volunteer to boldly go where no man has gone before.

Archbishop Bans Pop Music At Funerals

Conchobair Re:What happened to News for Nerds? (38 comments)

Religion has nothing to do with being a nerd. It is not mutually exclusive. In fact some religions could be said to be comprised solely of nerds. Your bigotry is showing also.

Bye Bye Lala

Conchobair Conchobair writes  |  more than 4 years ago

Conchobair (1648793) writes "Free online streaming music takes another blow as Lala.com announced it closure effective May 31st, 2010. Lala's home page once claimed over 8 million licensed songs available. No new users are allowed to sign up, however current users may log in until the closure date. Users will receive a credit in the amount of their Lala web song purchases and remaining balances for use on Apple's iTunes Store.

No clear reason for the closure has been made, however it may be related to Lala's purchase by Apple on December 5, 2009 for more than $80M."

Contempt of Court for Email Campaign

Conchobair Conchobair writes  |  more than 4 years ago

Conchobair (1648793) writes "Kevin Trudeau author and infomercial pitchman has been sentenced him to 30 days in jail and fined him $50,000 for contempt of court resulting from the judge of his case, Robert Gettleman, being sent e-mails from Trudeau supporters. Trudeau asked his supporters to email the federal judge overseeing a pending civil case brought against him by the Federal Trade Commission.

U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman said he was flooded with hundreds of "harassing, threatening and interfering" emails, locking up the judge's email system and shutting down his Blackberry for part of the day.

Kevin Trudeau has stated that he feels he and his supporters acted within their First Amendment rights. What do you think?"

HP Webcams are Racially Insensitive

Conchobair Conchobair writes  |  more than 3 years ago

Conchobair (1648793) writes "CNN reports that HP is looking into claims that their webcams can't see black people due to a recent recent viral video on YouTube that shows two co-workers taking turns in front of the camera. The camera is supposed to keep people's faces and bodies in proportion and centered on the screen as they move. The camera follows the white woman, but when the black man enters the frame the camera stops tracking. In a case of life imitating art this same issue was addressed in the "Racial Sensitivity" episode of the R&D comedy 'Better Off Ted'."

Pride, Prejudice, Zombies, and Natalie Portman

Conchobair Conchobair writes  |  more than 4 years ago

Conchobair (1648793) writes "The BBC reports "Natalie Portman is set to slay the undead in a movie adaptation of best-seller Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, it is reported. Portman will play feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet... The novel, by Seth Grahame-Smith, takes Jane Austen's classic and adds a new subplot in which the story takes place as the dead rise from the grave.""

Naked Picture Proves Girls Actually Do Play WoW

Conchobair Conchobair writes  |  more than 4 years ago

Conchobair (1648793) writes "The Escapist highlights a Twitter post by Adrianne Curry, the first winner of reality TV series America's Next Top Model. According to The Escapist, in the post she "announced that after an intense workout at her kickboxing class she would be taking a shower, then spending her Sunday afternoon getting stoned and playing World of Warcraft naked. And then she took a picture to prove it." This adds to the list of hot girls that play WoW which reportedly includes Felicia Day (The Guild, Dr. Horrible, Buffy), Mila Kunis (That 70's Show, Family Guy), and Sunny Leone (Pornstar). It may be 3.3 patch day the realms are down, but that certainly after that my server is up."

This change has already taken place. Currently there is no way to access imeem music or playlists; however the MySpace redirect page reports they are "working to migrate your imeem playlist to MySpace Music". PcMag goes on to ask the question: "Last week it was announced that Apple had purchased Lala , and now MySpace snaps up imeem. Are Pandora and Rhapsody next?""

Nerds Most Likely to be Emo

Conchobair Conchobair writes  |  more than 4 years ago

Conchobair (1648793) writes "Reuters reports "teenagers who are addicted to the Internet are more likely to engage in self-harm behavior... The moderately-to-severely addicted students were almost five times more likely than non-addicted students to have self-injured six or more times in the past 6 months." This may be due in part to the ever increasing number of Emo users on Myspace and Facebook."

Comcast buys stake in NBC Universal

Conchobair Conchobair writes  |  more than 4 years ago

Conchobair (1648793) writes "From the article: Comcast Corp struck a deal to buy a majority stake in NBC Universal from General Electric Co, creating a media superpower that would control not just how television shows and movies are made, but how they are delivered to the home... Comcast wants NBC Universal so it can deliver programing to audiences however they may want it — through TV sets, personal computers or mobile devices. Not only is Comcast the largest U.S. cable distributor, it also is the leading Internet service provider to homes. But critics of the deal, including some Comcast investors, suggest there is too little overlap between the businesses to draw out meaningful savings, and that competition regulators are bound to burden it with restrictions."
