Airbus Faces Charges Over 2009 Rio-Paris Crash

Daevad Pilots express preferences (187 comments)

I know no plane design is perfect, and all manufacturers have had their share of crashes but I will never forget the bumper-sticker-sized signs on the two pilot's bags on a flight to Japan (in a Boeing 777): If it's not Boeing, I'm not going

Talking To Computers?

Daevad Re:Talking, I want it to Read-My-Mind (RMM) (395 comments)

A computer that can read your mind is a computer that can tell others (human and computer) what you are thinking. NO THANK YOU.

IOC Orders Blogger To Take Down Video

Daevad I think I will puke. (389 comments)

The notion that the IOC owns the copyright to all images from the games is just plain wrong. Every video and every photo taken by every visitor to the games? I feel like power puking all over the faces of the IOC board.

And if the games cannot be made financially viable without all the network TV money, super copyright and bizarre broadcasting, then maybe they shouldn't be held at all. I for one would not miss them one bit.

XCore's EduBook, a Netbook That Runs on AA Batteries

Daevad Re:Hurray for LandFills! (217 comments)

Get rid of the batteries! Turn the lid into a solar cell. Third world schools don't have roofs, right? Plenty of free sunshine to run the thing.

Toyota Pedal Issue Highlights Move To Electronics

Daevad Fly-by-wire repeated (913 comments)

This reminds me of the situation with the first fly-by-wire airliners. There was a lot of concern by pilots and others over the reliability of the hardware and the software. And a lot more thought goes in to designing airliners than cars.

Computers Key To Air France Crash

Daevad The Pilots Know... (911 comments)

Last year I flew to Japan on a Boeing aircraft. I saw both pilots before they boarded the plane. Each had a sticker on their briefcase that read:

If its not Boeing, I'm not going.

My sentiments exactly.

Ballmer Threatens To Pull Out of the US

Daevad Screw them. (1142 comments)

I nearly never post here. But if MS wants to threaten the U.S., then they can go to hell. I am sick to death of their arrogance, and Ballmer is a stinking filthy piece of distended rectum. They can go to where ever they want, that's fine. Then we should put enormous import duties on commercial software from offshore companies and Federal/State/Local governments should change all their software purchasing standards to exclude MS products.

Daevad Just because... (823 comments)

Just because something CAN be done, it doesn't mean it SHOULD be done. People who think this stuff up and promote it (especially when they know exactly what kind of negative reaction it will create) ought to be put up against the wall and shot.

300 Chinese Foxconn Workers 'Threaten Mass Suicide

Daevad Daevad writes  |  more than 2 years ago

Daevad (62067) writes "The Huffington Post UK is reporting: Around 300 Chinese workers who manufacture XBox consoles took to a factory roof and threatened bosses with mass suicide over a dispute about pay, unconfirmed reports have claimed. According to the reports the employees had asked bosses for a raise but in response were told to either quit with compensation or keep their jobs at their usual salary. Most workers apparently decided to leave, but the company did not hand over the money as promised."

Virgin Mobile to start throttling Broadband2Go

Daevad Daevad writes  |  more than 3 years ago

Daevad (62067) writes "Virgin Mobile sent an e-mail today informing me of their plans to start throttling the Broadband2Go Plan. The web site doesn't seem to reflect the change yet, but here is the message they sent to me: Here at Virgin Mobile, our mission is to deliver an outstanding customer experience. Sometimes that means making difficult choices in order to provide the best possible service to the greatest number of customers. To make sure we can keep offering our $40 Unlimited Broadband2Go Plan at such a great price, we're putting a speed limit in place for anyone on that plan who uses over 5GB in a month. How will it work? Starting February 15, 2011, if you go over 5GB in a month on the $40 Unlimited Plan: Your data speeds will be limited for the remainder of the monthly plan cycle. During this time, you may experience slower page loads and file downloads and lags in streaming media. Your data speeds will return to normal as soon as you buy a new Broadband2Go Plan. This change will only affect plans bought on or after 2/15/2011. How will it affect me? Keep in mind, 5GB is A LOT of data. To give you an idea, it's about 250 hours of web browsing or over 500,000(!) emails*. So this change shouldn't affect you unless you're a heavy downloader/streamer/etc. How will I know if I'm getting close to 5GB? We've updated the progress bar in your Connection Manager to show the amount of data you've used. If you go above 5GB in a month, the bar will turn yellow, letting you know your data speeds will be reduced until you buy a new plan. By putting this speed limit in place, we're making sure we can deliver the same quality service you've come to expect from Broadband2Go. We hope you understand. Thanks for being a Broadband2Go customer. Virgin Mobile"
