Ask Slashdot: What's the Most Depressing Sci-fi You've Ever Read?

DamienMcKenna Re:Stephen Donaldson - Thomas Covenant (1365 comments)

Donaldson's "Gap" series was pretty depressing too - lots of anti-heros, a leading lady who spends half of the series being raped, etc. Yes, the series did get to a point in the end, but it's like wading through ten miles of sewers just to find an exit.

Book Review: Pro Drupal 7 Development, Third Edition

DamienMcKenna Needs revisions, missing MAJOR new topic (74 comments)

This book was clearly rushed to market for two reasons:

  1. The Drupal coding standards are not adhered to when every single line should have been poured over for 100% accuracy, given it is such an important part of "the Drupal way" and how this will be many developer's first book.
  2. One of the most important new concepts of Drupal 7, Entities, is not really given any coverage.

National doctors association denounces AAP policy on circumcision

DamienMcKenna DamienMcKenna writes  |  more than 2 years ago

DamienMcKenna writes "In response to the American Academy of Pediatrics' announced support of circumcision, the 17-year-old national association Doctors Opposing Circumcision have released a statement (PDF, 580kb) denouncing the AAP's policy, alleging that the studies used have since been debunked, ignored a substantial volume of data countering the claims and/or were paid for by a known pro-circumcision school."
