How Relevant is C in 2014?

Daniel Oom Unix is dead (641 comments)

Unix was proclaimed dead in 1990 by Byte Magazine. Windows is broken, Apple is rotten, Solaris has set, IBM AIX with age, HP-UX was fed to ducks, Excel has left Word that it is out of the Office, the Oracle is learning Delphi, but still there's quite a byte of C code running for president every day.

Daniel Oom Re:In my experience (118 comments)

Japanese Maglev Train Hits 500kph

Daniel Oom Re:240km/hr? (419 comments)

I once travelled from Amsterdam to Poitiers. Until Brussels the TGV ran over normal rails at some 140 km/h, then quickly reached Paris Nord. Then it took an hour to get to the south of the city by taxicab, where another TGV left to the destination.

Yes, in densely populated West-Europe trains offer an advantage and air travel is popular for trans-oceanic destinations.

Creationism Conference at Michigan State University Stirs Unease

Daniel Oom Science versus pseudo-science (1007 comments)

It is of course a worrying development if a religious group is able to hold a conference at a prestigious university to give its ideas a scientific guise.

If this cannot be prevented, try holding a scientific conference on the topic of creationis, thus in contrast to what gstoddart holds, analyse the subject through scienfic discourse.

Ask Slashdot: Dealing With an Unresponsive Manufacturer Who Doesn't Fix Bugs?

Daniel Oom Re:sue em for breach of contract (204 comments)

You sure should do that.... if your contract states that the manufacturer guarantees that their product contains no bugs:-(

More likely your contract states that the customer is responsible for testing the software before accepting and paying for it.
