Getting Past Censorship With Unorthodox Links To the Internet

Dayofswords Re:"microwave OVENS"? Nope, not a typo (82 comments)

it's correct actually

an American naval-intelligence analyst at a NATO cyberwar unit in Tallinn, Estonia, describes a curious microwave oven. Though still able to cook food, its microwaves (essentially, short radiowaves) are modulated to encode information as though it were a normal radio transmitter.

DirectX 'Getting In the Way' of PC Game Graphics, Says AMD

Dayofswords Re:Hardware needs to change DX is obsolete. (323 comments)

(super newbie programmer, merely guessing)
So rather than having to go to the CPU ask what's next, you just give the GPU data, package of commands(in form of algorithms, like the for loop) finish doing those then come back to the CPU for the next set?

i assume right now it's cpu does for, gpu draws, cpu does for, gpu draws
and what you want is cpu gives a package of stuff, gpu executes and draws

basically, have the GPU do some of the thinking
maybe?

Introducing a new Linux Kernel Archives

Dayofswords Dayofswords writes  |  more than 3 years ago

Dayofswords (1548243) writes "Kernel.org would like to officially unveil are long existing parallel infrastructure. Since it's inception we've been concerned with total and catastrophic failure of our systems, and have secretly and quietly run a full and parallel infrastructure. Today, we have decided to lift the veil and no longer hide behind the security through obscurity. Kernel.org would like to officially announce Kernel.org Skynet. And for such an unveiling of such an important piece of our infrastructure I would also like to announce the generous donation from Google to help support Skynet: the purchase of an set of aircraft to keep kernel.org in the air at all times, making kernel.org the first flying datacenter!"

Humble Bundle 2 is live

Dayofswords Dayofswords writes  |  about 4 years ago

Dayofswords (1548243) writes "The first Humble Bundle was a monster success, with over 100,000 people donating over $1 million in total to support the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Child's Play, and of course the developers behind the games themselves. The second bundle is now live, containing five great games: Braid, Cortex Command, Machinarium, Osmos, and Revenge of the Titans. You pay what you want, decide where your money goes, each game is DRM-free, and the games work on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux."

YouTube Rolls Out It's New Look

Dayofswords Dayofswords writes  |  more than 4 years ago

Dayofswords (1548243) writes "Today Google launched its new look for it's popular video site YouTube. "As you may know, we're in the midst of one of the largest redesigns in YouTube's history" YouTube's blog said, "we're simplifying the look and functionality of the video page." As of right now the YouTube's forum topic on the change is swamped with complaints of the new design. YouTube tried out the new design two months ago to get a reaction on the changes. "Now, after a few more additions based on your latest feedback, we are rolling it out to 100% of YouTube users." To sum up the changes Youtube said "...this redesign is about going "back to basics," focusing attention on the reason why you came to YouTube in the first place — the video — and all the ways you engage with content and creators.""
