How Gen Y Should Talk To Old People At Work

Deekin_Scalesinger Re:Not concerned (459 comments)

There is something to be said for my being born when I was (also having a natively geeky bent to me didn't hurt either). I was born in '72, saw my first movie in the theater in '77 (Star Wars, yay!) played my first video game (Night Driver, yay!) in '79, went to my first computer camp in '81, banging on an Apple ][.

I don't know if I am a digital native - I think of it more like I was a babe on the Mayflower. Lucky me!

NASDAQ Trading Halted Due To "Technical Issue"

Deekin_Scalesinger Re:Hello tech support? (240 comments)

Indeed - I shudder to think that this needs to be "soon to be". It should be "now". No food, no drink, no draw ties hanging off of your shorts, etc. Period.

PlayStation 4 Will Be Running Modified FreeBSD

Deekin_Scalesinger Re:Sony Hackstation (457 comments)

Sorry to hear that bubba. I have enjoyed your posts for a while now. Just said a prayer for her and your family that she either passes quickly/peacefully or gets better ASAP. Having gone through my Mother's sickness/death, I feel for you. Take care of yourself as well as your Mom/Family.

Saudi Arabia Blocks Viber Messaging Service

Deekin_Scalesinger Re:Let's be fair here. (83 comments)

(and yes, I suppose I am giving too big of a hint to the Powers That Be concerning my whereabouts, but truth be told, I'd relish the battle. As a card carrying member of the EFF and a couple of other organizations, it would thrill me to find out how it would go down. Since I don't do anything "wrong", I say bring it on!)

Saudi Arabia Blocks Viber Messaging Service

Deekin_Scalesinger Re:Let's be fair here. (83 comments)

Agreed. I have a armory stuffed with digital widgets that give the Government no way to tap me. I use them a lot when I have to. I also live two blocks from the US Vice President and haven't had anyone knocking at my door, nor do I expect to.

Saudi Arabia Blocks Viber Messaging Service

Deekin_Scalesinger Re:Need more Tor (83 comments)

Same with VPN service in the Middle East. Super unlikely they'll know WHAT you are sending, but the mere existence of VPN service in some of those countries means a very bad day for the hapless end user. Having run VPN services worldwide for people in this predicament, I have a good understanding of this (sadly).

EU Countries Closer To Mandatory Minimum Sentence Cap For Hacking

Deekin_Scalesinger Re:Nice concept (154 comments)

Sure we do. In my ancestral home of Pennsylvania, we got a lot of them. Can't buy booze unless you purchase it from the Gov't, Certain stores only sell six packs, others only cases of beer. Our sales tax (VAT to you guys I believe) is convoluted at best - books are taxed, magazines aren't. Soap is taxed, paper towels are not. Etc, etc...

But some laws are pretty universal in the US (with some interpretation of course), mostly to do with criminal acts that harm others. No one is getting off "easy" for rape in one state as opposed to another. Maybe the EU is thinking along the "harming others" category, which disruptive hacking certainly can do.

World of Warcraft Film Shooting Begins Early 2014

Yeah I know :/ - 4th time is a charm? If we got Bruckheimer/Abrams or someone like that team involved it would still suck, but at least have cool special effects :)

Microsoft's Penis Song Faces Stiff Criticism at NDC

Deekin_Scalesinger Deekin_Scalesinger writes  |  about 2 years ago

Deekin_Scalesinger (755062) writes "“I got the skills to impress, I’m a computer genius. The words “Micro” and “Soft” don’t apply to my penis,” beamed the vocals of a bubblegum dance song during an entertainment break at the annual conference last week. Meanwhile, the lyrics were flashed karaoke style in the front of the stage for the crowd to sing along to as dancers moved to the beat erratically.

The performance itself was given by the dancing Windows Azure girls."
