Is the West Building Its Own Iron Curtain?

Deliveranc3 Ghandhi Jesus impersonator from Canada shackled (337 comments)

Just got deported from Panama for challenging their gender politics during an election, fortunately I didn't challenge any of their other fundamental failings. They were very upset the men I riled up killed several women which I knew nothing about. I was there to meet a non-vocal indigenous tribe, very un prime directive but entirely my fault.

Anyway something that felt a lot like the hand of government came down and scooped me up and put me custody. I can take questions at deliverancelev 4 2 hotmail dot com. And will be writing a book on it over the next few days if you'd like to hear about it. Check out information regarding Bocas Del Torro and Changinola revolution over the last 5 days. My revolution wouldn't have been violent but I was too locked up to help.

Microsoft To Can Skype API; Third-Party Products Will Not Work

Deliveranc3 Re:And nothing of value was lost... (330 comments)

Have you tried Nimbuzz, it's European. It supported, ICQ, MSN, Skype, Facebook, GTALK(Jabber), IRC, (Love to see SIP support) and offered outgoing calls. It was pretty amazing, then the other players attacked it.

Still good, works Windows, Linux, and is available for Android (probably iPhone). Hope it works out for everyone.

It's sadly not open source ATMM.

Ask Slashdot: Where Are the Complete Hosting Providers?

Deliveranc3 Re:Moar tin foil! (178 comments)

"I have gotten incredibly sick of the tin foil hat brigade putting the NSA into every one of their conspiracy theories"

Like spying on foreign governments? Germany doesn't even have an army!

The article came out today and it's passe?

People are pissed because they realize that if there are no terrorist attacks, the budget will go up and surveillance will get worse and if there are the same thing will happen. They're absolutely pissed that these guys are selling anti-tiger rocks in South America, with their tax money which makes them complicit and then going out and pissing off the rest of the world.

We're nowhere near a solution. So it's relevant and good to talk about and important, and you're boring.

Is Europa Too Prickly To Land On?

Deliveranc3 Re:Hmmm... (140 comments)

I propose using some kind of contracting ring system to slow the landing decent. Are we trying to study what's there or blow up what's there?!??!?!

Perhaps some kind of retractable hooks or spears? (webs would be AWESOME)... replace the wheels? Just have it haul itself around through the spires?

Deliveranc3 Super Keen on putting Trees on Mars (140 comments)

Genetically modified or otherwise. Send seeds, grow teraforming. Obviously there's lots of radiation, but start with something that turns CO2 into C and O2.

Something kind of pretty so people will want it as a background.

Get ideas flowing about how to get it done!

Why Bitcoin Boomed During the Government Shutdown

Deliveranc3 Banks Tried to Shut it down (282 comments)

Banks made transferring out of MTGOX impossible, MTGOX refunded my $. They are about 8 weeks behind processing withdraws.

Bad news, banks and government attacking at same time interfered with each other.

Also, they had this guy, he sold drugs... lots of drugs... but did they bust him? Nope, they did an elaborate sting to bag him for something REALLY REALLY evil... (I hate drugs btw) Why? So he wouldn't be a martyr for free wealth exchange.

Also the whole BTC aren't totally anonymous thing is a good to know.

Should Google Get Aggressive About Monetizing Android?

Deliveranc3 Already bad both ways (168 comments)

My dad complains about ads getting in his way so he can't do anything on his phone. My AOSP build can't install google apps so I can't buy from the store.

So casual users and hardcore users getting screwed.

Android phones aren't much different from iPhone except you can go outside the walled garden, which means you developers will be able to sell their apps even if they compete with "official" offerings. You can disable updates. Etc.

Android with AOSP is WONDERFUL, with it broken... I'm waiting for the Ubuntu phone.

Science Magazine "Sting Operation" Catches Predatory Journals In the Act

Deliveranc3 He would have submitted it to 304 closed journals (194 comments)

But it would have cost him millions of dollars. And there was no chance that the open journals would pay him to discredit their competitors.

Is there a list of the open journals that caught the fraud?

Deliveranc3 Re:Gold Bug Strawman (532 comments)

"investment, consumption"... can you list a company valued in the billions or trillions of dollars (other than google) that you actually like? Considering the value of those companies comes from investment (usually by the old through banks and brokers) is it really a good thing?

In the olden days rich people used to sit in the garden on weekends and people from the surrounding area would bring them business ideas and investments. Then people started hating the rich and they hid away behind banks and investors... they don't get the same return on investment and don't get to know the people they invest in.

A bit like how censors implemented copyright and now there is very little patronage, which was a lousy system in most ways but a heck of a lot of classical and opera (unchanged mediums) was made under that system. Significantly more than has been made under copyright.

Deliveranc3 Money is made out of time... (532 comments)

Usually time spent doing something the person doesn't want to do (or else why have to pay them?!)...congratulations now if you can do basic math and can figure out what goes into a product you can be a consumer that makes the world better.

Can Slashdot Get Proactive About Lawyers

Deliveranc3 Deliveranc3 writes  |  more than 2 years ago

Deliveranc3 (629997) writes "Slashers complain about "Lawyers" a lot. I'd like to see a Slash moderated story or poll which asked what Legal system Slashdot readers support or idealize. (If it's a poll, may I suggest a The Diamond Age/Confucian option, and a grand arbiter system!).
Maybe do a recursive reference to Slash :) Could you make the comment system go to 10?

Oh, and again I'd like to download ALL my comments. Dunno who to talk to about that. Will pay."

Gmail Security Vulnerability and Hostile Intent

Deliveranc3 Deliveranc3 writes  |  more than 2 years ago

Deliveranc3 (629997) writes "Gmail stores all previous passwords and forces users to provide new ones. Not only does this produce a list of all passwords you've used (an obvious security risk) but also forces users to continually add new passwords, likely getting an extensive list of all of a person's password. Evil or just stupid?"

Crappy Lappy

Deliveranc3 Deliveranc3 writes  |  more than 8 years ago Um... I got a compaq Armada 7800 p2 266... 10 Gig HD 384 Ram (Woohoo!)... Anyway this sucker is running Winxp it runs fine but I want Linux (Ubuntu or something with Enlightenment?)...

It has a floppy drive and I have a usb drive (128mb) and a WiFi card (Dlink-G122[supports G])...
I'd rather not remove the HD which is what some people are suggesting... Anyway I want it to dual boot windows(Which I can't really remove since there is no way to get it back on).
So basically I was thinking I'd partition magic it to have about 4-5 gigs free for Linux and install somehow... now here's the thing I don't know how...

I don't know how to get my Laptop to boot from usb key or floppy (Does it do it by default?). I could probably install a one floppy distro but I have no idea how to upgrade to a larger graphical distro.
MSN me at Deliverancelev4@hotmail.com if you're interested in being bothered about it.
