The Guardian Reveals That Whisper App Tracks "Anonymous" Users

Dishevel Re:Well (173 comments)

I am not asking for an new amendment just that I have no worries about what a private company knows about me.

And we do have the power to fix it. As a people though Americans have become lazy and spoiled and will give up the freedoms that were paid for in blood for convenience.

The Guardian Reveals That Whisper App Tracks "Anonymous" Users

Dishevel Re:Well (173 comments)

I believe that he pointed out rather clearly that he did not give a shit about what companies are selling to companies to get him to buy shit.

Where his rational fear comes from is when an entity with guns and prisons comes for you. This is what the constitution is meant to protect us from, "The Tyranny of the Government". I also do not give a fuck that P&G knows how many times a day I take a crap. I do care when the police violate my privacy in an attempt to take away my freedom or my life.

We have the freedom to choose the people we want to do business with (Exceptions being Government granted monopolies). We do not have the freedom to tell the government to fuck off.

Ask Slashdot: Handling Patented IP In a Job Interview?

Dishevel Re:You guessed it: It depends (223 comments)

As an employee your job is to do your best. Period. They hire you at a wage you both agree on. Then. You do your best as an employee for the company. If you have "tools" that you can use and do not then you are not doing the right thing. This is not to say that they should get free permanent lic of all your "IP" (Fuck I hate that phrase) becaue you had the pleasure to work there.

But while you are working there you should always bring your best. That is how a person gets through life being successful and remaining human.

Netflix To Charge More For 4K Video

Dishevel Re: Thats Fair (158 comments)

Netflix does pay for all their bandwidth. Netflix pays it internet bills. The customer pays theirs. When the customer want Netflix to send a movie over Verizon says ... Whoa! Even though we are getting paid by the customer to deliver you video and Netflix is paying their provider to send it, We want more money because .... Fairness!

Once you know that they are going to lock you up forever the police have kind of removed the disincentive to kill them.

Four Dutch Uberpop Taxi Drivers Arrested, Fined

Dishevel Re:Standards, my ass. (280 comments)

They get to offer a superior service because the are not regulated.

Keep Uber going. Just let the cab companies compete fairly. Either get rid of regulations on cabs or add them to Uber.

Ask Slashdot: An Accurate Broadband Speed Test?

Dishevel Re: Speakeasy Speed Test (294 comments)

I have to tell you that the stuff that normally kills a fiber run leaves copper alone and vice versa.

If you are running a company and a connection is important spending an extra grand or so a month to have bonded T1 backup is a good idea.

Ask Slashdot: An Accurate Broadband Speed Test?

Dishevel Re: Speakeasy Speed Test (294 comments)

T1, while slow, has its place.

1.5 Mbs, synchronous, rock solid and dedicated.

If you can afford it. You do not need faster and it has to be up it is great. Also I have 4xBonded T1 as a backup to my 50 Mbps fiber at work. The copper and fiber runs are completely different and gives me awesome piece of mind.

Texas Ebola Patient Dies

Dishevel Re:The Conservative Option (480 comments)

Have found very few complete tools that hate all people from the state of Texas and hate gays. It is really awesome of you to let us know that you are filled with hate via both geographic location and sexual preferences.

Texas Ebola Patient Dies

Dishevel Re:The Conservative Option (480 comments)

Your point would be awesome if it were not for the fact that the officials are not telling us that restricting travel out of the affected regions would be bad.

They are stating that banning all travel to and from the region and watching the region burn would be bad, and it would be. Heavy restrictions of travel from the region while sending aid and beating the disease down at its origin is just common sense. You will learn. Unfortunately in order to "look good" many people in the US will have to die of Ebola.

On the plus side all of the ISIS warriors that did make it across the US border may be able to do more damage in the US than Ebola.

He was not a Texan. He was an asshole that lied to get here and exposed others to a deadly danger for his own good.

Fuck him.

Texas Ebola Patient Dies

Dishevel Re:The Conservative Option (480 comments)

Most people I know think that there should be a non essential travel ban and heavy, real screening for the travel that is allowed.

Of course that sadly sounds reasonable and when you have zero facts on your side and hatred for everyone that does not think like you, allowing "the other side" to seem reasonable can not be accepted.

Ask Slashdot: How Would You Build a Home Network To Fully Utilize Google Fiber?

Dishevel Re:more than I can technically achieve over wirele (279 comments)

Because CAT6 will last longer. If I am going to put something in that is not easily replaceable I am going to put in the best, longest lasting stuff I can.

Studies Conclude Hands-Free-calling and Apple Siri Distract Drivers

Dishevel Re:So.. (208 comments)

No.

In California when they first passed the hands free laws they actually used a study that said that hands free was just as bad as holding the phone as justification for the law.

The problem in the US is that the politicians have figured out just how truly stupid and lazy the majority of people are and are using that to their advantage.

How Hackers Accidentally Sold a Pre-Release XBox One To the FBI

Dishevel Re:Yay! (67 comments)

Well for many things you really have to put a value on life.

We can save lives by putting up massive crush barriers between the streets and the sidewalks and putting pedestrian tunnels or overpasses at each and every intersection in the US. The cost would be enormous. In the end it would be a really bad choice because IT (the cost) would not be WORTH IT (the lives saved).

Of course as people we do not say that 100 lives are just not worth a 400 billion dollar expenditure. But we, even as individuals do inherently assign a value to a life nonetheless.

Xen Cloud Fix Shows the Right Way To Patch Open-Source Flaws

Dishevel Re:Maybe? (81 comments)

I think the real idea here is that you spot an exploitable bug. You inform those who are responsible to fix it. You wait (while making sure they are working furiously on a patch.). If they are working hard toward a fix you continue to wait till it is fixed or out in the open anyway. If they blow you off and state that "they will get around to it" you let it fly.

FBI thinks Google is evil, Now.

Dishevel Dishevel writes  |  about a year and a half ago

Dishevel (1105119) writes "In a story from Mike at TechDirt.
The last few weeks have been quite interesting in the world of NSLs, however. As we noted, a few weeks ago, a court in California ruled that NSLs were unconstitutional. And, now, it's come out that Google appears to be fighting an NSL, potentially in response to that very ruling. Of course, it appears that this news of Google fighting back wasn't supposed to be public either."

CNET steps in it again.

Dishevel Dishevel writes  |  about 2 years ago

Dishevel writes "CNET finally comes clean.
At CES CNET voted that Dish networks "Hopper" would be best of show. Of course CBS, owner of CNET steped in to kill that due to pending litigation over the Hopper.

Well they have finally come clean about it.
Sort of. My favorite part is these two quotes from the editor in chief of CNET Lindsey Turrentine.
First.
"Going forward, I will do everything within my power to prevent this situation from happening again."
Followed by.
"If I had to face this dilemma again, I would not quit. I stand by my team and the years of work they have put into making CNET what it is."
Hmmm
 "
