And, you can also use the question as a reading/research/teach Google excercise for your students, which would allow them input and to feel a sense of ownership in the Learning Process (tm).

Since he owned the 20 GB, he could re-rip them

It's obvious that at 20 gig, he only was moving digital copies of material that he personally owned - so it should be a simple matter of his re-ripping the material.

DontScotty Re:Don't stop your meds! (218 comments)

"Do you really think a comment like this makes a difference? Would any mentally ill person follow your advice?"

Yes, they would. Hearing this advice - and it's twin of "Do not adjust your own medication without doctor's okay" ARE helpful. Intellectually, we know not to fuck with our meds. However, there are times we think that we know better than ourselves.

His positive comment is a reminder that while we may be feeling better, it is NOT okay for us to stop doing what we are doing.
Just like the chiming little bell in your car if you haven't fastened your seat belt - that little nudge to be compliant with your safety might be the difference between ejection from the front seat or sore shoulders from the harness.

Or, perhaps getting broken apart Ma-Bell 1980's style? No more Cell Phone + Internet + TV + IP Phone for your Universe.... pretty sure they (AT&T) won't rock the boat, especially while they are still swimming in it.

The Dismantling of POTS: Bold Move Or Grave Error?

DontScotty Re:Won't be the same level of service. (582 comments)

Radio based signals can NEVER reach the reliability of copper-to-copper connectivity.

Electromagnetic interference, cable->antenna problems, raw antenna problems - destruction due to drunk drivers, radio wave propagation issues.

While land lines can have issues - the shear number of 'moving parts' and 'variables' can never be overcome to reach the reliability of land-line infrastructure and services.

Google Fade-In annoyance has been disabled!

DontScotty DontScotty writes  |  more than 4 years ago

DontScotty (978874) writes "Finally — Google is now performing as it used to — quick, snappy, and complete! The Fade-In effect has been removed. You no longer need to wiggle your input device to make the "Web/Images/Videos/Maps/News/Shopping/Gmail" links appear in their traditional place in the top left corner of the Google homepage.

"Google has also killed its "fade-in" homepage – which was rolled out just months ago. The page would hide most of its hyperlinks until you actually moved your mouse, but for reasons unknown, Google has returned to a setup where the links appear immediately.""

Obituary for Michael Jackson as written by ...

DontScotty DontScotty writes  |  more than 5 years ago

DontScotty writes "Obituary for Michael Jackson as written by DontScotty submitted to Slashdot.org

Michael was told that he's "Got to Be There" when he was "Ben" on August 29, 1958. His vocal talents were recognized at age three when he was caught telling stories about his imaginary friend "Music & Me". The real name of the friend Music was "Billie Jean". His father, Joe Jackson, told Michael that his imaginary friend needed to "Beat It".

His problems stretched out "Forever, Michael" when his Jackson 5 career allegedly robbed him of his childhood. This sent him "Off the Wall" during the late 70's and early 1980's.

As his separation from his family increased, he discovered the "Thriller" of new and unique friends. Some people thought palling around with a chimp named Bubbles was a "Bad" idea. Hidden Microphones may have caught Michael telling Bubbles that "I Just Can't Stop Loving You".

Famous Friends. Michael may have been influenced by his association with famous people. 1977 he was pictured with Woody Allen — known for marrying his wife's adopted daughter who was 35 years younger. 1983 saw him hanging out with Cher, whom he didn't bother to ask if knowing that an ex-husband would be killed by a tree in 1998 might bother her. In 1984, he was pictured at the White House with Ronald and Nancy Reagan, but his visit was soon forgotten. In 1988, Michael was photographed with the Princess of England, "Dirty Diana".

Emmanuel Lewis, (aka Webster) played a tiny role in developing Michael's taste for associating with the young and the small. In 1992 Webster was upsized to new friend Macaulay Culkin, whom allegedly spent time "Home Alone" with Michael. The new friends appeared to slow the rate of cosmetic surgery that was changing the "Man in the Mirror" who appeared to be haunting Michael.

A new friendship with a 13-year-old child broke down after allegations of child sexual abuse were brought forth. Many people in the press thought Michael may have been a "Smooth Criminal" in regards to child molestation. The police performed a 25 minute strip-search to check the condition and match a description of Michael Jackson's private parts. Michael protested about "The Way You Make Me Feel" to the police. Shortly there after, he began a "Dangerous" addiction to painkillers.

On the Oprah show, in answering the question regarding "Black or White", he disclosed the conditions of vitiligo and lupus. This statement was refuted by Dr. Gregory House saying "It's Never Lupus."

"HIStory" of reclaiming his childhood seemed to be "Invincible" during his court trials that ended on June 13, 2005 with the jury verdict of Not Guilty.

Michael Jackson passed away on June 25th, 2009 at age 50. He is survived by 3 children; Michael Joseph, Paris Michael Katherine, and Prince Michael (aka Blanket). His theory of fathering 3 children was "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough". He is also survived by two ex-wives; Lisa Marie Presley and Debbie Rowe. It is said he is now Moonwalking with Jesus.

Adding comedy to my documentation

DontScotty DontScotty writes  |  more than 6 years ago

DontScotty writes "I have just been promoted to writing process documents for an outsourcing company.

Since the first of these process documents are for people familiar with the systems and locations, I'm including 'easter eggs' or 'chuckle-ables' in the pages.

In example: Assigning techs to buildings with contact information — I included a building name that fit the naming scheme, but didn't actually exist. I assigned the tech as Captain Tuttle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuttle_(M*A*S*H)

I was wondering, what kind of 'chuckle-ables' do other slashdot readers put into their documention, presentations, or comments while they code?

Pilot fired for 'Top Gun' fly-by at Paine Field

SEATTLE — A British pilot has been fired after doing a fly-by with a new Boeing 777-330ER at Paine Field in Everett last month.

British newspapers report that Captain Ian Wilkinson, 55, flew the Cathay Pacific jet just 28 feet above the ground in a ceremonial fly-by on a delivery flight. Several VIPs were aboard.

The incident occurred on Jan. 30, when the airplane, the sixth of 30 777-300ERs for delivery to Cathay Pacific, was unveiled at a pre-flight ceremony at the Future of Flight Aviation Center in Everett.

The London Telegraph reported that passengers were "said to be stunned into silence," while people on the ground cheered, and that Wilkinson later toasted the flight with champagne.

Wilkinson was fired when video of the stunt showed up on YouTube.

E-Toll Roads Charge For Hidden Orphan

DontScotty DontScotty writes  |  more than 7 years ago

DontScotty (978874) writes "Besides losing your alleged privacy of movement, now here's a real threat to tuck under your aluminum covered baseball cap. But, this one will be hitting your virtual wallet. For those using EZ Pass electronic toll systems, be wary of the "orphan exit". If the system fails to scan you out of traffic — you pay NOT for the road driven, but the maximum daily (aka lost ticket) rate."
