Your post is oddly not very specific while sounding specific. What did you actually order and how long did it take to arrive?

This has nothing to do with the NSA. This is all about the so called content owners protecting copyright. And with this they are starting to win!

Julian Assange To Be Extradited To Sweden

DuncanE Why does he fear Sweden will send him to US? (530 comments)

"Assange fears that an extradition to Sweden would make it easier for Washington to extradite him to the US on possible charges relating to the release by WikiLeaks of leaked US embassy cables."

I never got that. He's in England and he's from Australia. Surely these are the 2 biggest allies of the US.

Hawking Picks Physics Over God For Big Bang

DuncanE Is that all? (1328 comments)

Professor Hawking,

Is this all?

Is that all the best of the best in physics has to argue about? Gravity vs god? Thats like arguing over air vs oxygen.

Can you get back to the energy problem please? Neither god nor gravity will save us from that.

Go, Google's New Open Source Programming Language

DuncanE Re:Build-in function library (831 comments)

It seems to have a number of packages already including a image package and http package? (http://golang.org/pkg/)

Im sure it wouldnt be to hard to write a package that wraps sqllite or something for DB access.

My question is, given that its so close to C what does it give me the C doesn't?

Linux On Netbooks — a Complicated Story

DuncanE Re:People just don't understand Linux (833 comments)

What the hell has photoshop got to do with Windows vs linux on netbooks?

I dont want to run photoshop on my netbook regardless if the OS is Windows or Linux. I want email, a web browser, a simple photo tool and an office suite.

Mozilla Unveils Aurora Concept Browser

DuncanE Re:I for one... welcome our new Itunes overloads (213 comments)

Okay.. Im replying up top, but this is such a random article I feel a random comment is in order...

This just goes to show that the bringer of the last revolution (FF over IE) has no real idea who its over thrower will be.

Personally I would like to see FF add some kind of podcast support (call it netcast if you like) plus better media download library management. Then FF could be a browser, news paper, radio station and TV station all in one.

Itunes is the real competition to Firefox and the browser market in general.

Is there an Open Source Web 2.0 Database?

DuncanE DuncanE writes  |  more than 5 years ago

DuncanE (35734) writes "A number of Web 2.0 databases have appeared in recent times and make excellent web based replacements for Microsoft Access. The likes of DabbleDB, Zoho Creator and Lazybase make great tools for an end user to make small scale database applications, but they all require the data to be hosted on third party servers. Are there any open source alternatives that could be hosted in-house?"

DuncanE DuncanE writes  |  more than 7 years ago

DuncanE (35734) writes "In case any (all?) of you didn't notice the slashdot opinion centre recently switched from AMD to INTEL. You may have also noticed as a logged in user some subtle and not so subtle javascript thingys (technical term) promoting this change over. I for one would prefer to see the so called "opinion centre" pieces posted as articles in the main window. Sure highlight them in the nice lime(y) green, make um clear they are ads and then we can all tell Intel exactly what we think about their articles. Plus slashdot can probably charge a heap more to Intel for the privilege.

The weird think is I'm not joking. As long as its kept to a reasonable level and maybe its not exclusive to Intel, I think it could actually be a interesting experience for both us, the slashdot community, and them, the IT vendors. So what do you think?"
