I was wondering if someone would manage to talk shit about Windows in a post about Apollo 11 software. Nice work.

Secret EU Open Source Migration Study Leaked

EveryNickIsTaken Oh noes! (311 comments)

Mod me down if you want, but Linux needs to go "full retard" in order to reach the masses. Essentially, a 6 year old and a 96 year old need to be able to use the system. If they can't, start over.

More "Miles Per Acre" From Bioelectricity Than Ethanol

I can only hope so, because I refuse to RTFA since it's clearly a professor trying to get himself research grants.

Senator Arlen Specter Becomes a Democrat

EveryNickIsTaken Re:Pennsylvania Politics (As Usual?) (1124 comments)

Or, an alternative, non-batshit-crazy version of events: - Sen. Specter realized that he doesn't live in the Deep South, is not a racist, and wants to have a future in politics. Hence, the change in party.

Senator Arlen Specter Becomes a Democrat

EveryNickIsTaken Re:Can't win as a Republican... (1124 comments)

I read earlier that he's going to have to switch on the EFCA in exchange for Ed Rendell clearing the Dem primary field. He won't have to necessary vote FOR it, but will have to at least vote to invoke cloture to get it up to vote. Dems only need 51 votes at that point, and will easily have it.

Ubuntu 9.04 Released

EveryNickIsTaken Re:Still Brown? (620 comments)

..that doesn't attempt to inspire retching subliminally.

As if the release name didn't already do that? "Jaunty Jackalope"? Wow. Nice work guys. Way to really try and make Linux go mainstream.

Why Republicans Won't Retake Silicon Valley

EveryNickIsTaken Re:GOP is captainless, rudderless, clueless (445 comments)

Wow, you make too much sense. Judging by what I've seen just this week, I thought their priorities were: 1. Rename the annual April 15th Tax Day protestors as a sexual euphemism, 2. Secede from the Union, 3. Pimp Chuck Norris.

Louisiana Rep. Preps State Bill Banning Human-Animal Hybrids

EveryNickIsTaken Re:Religion (422 comments)

Really? I figured with the Creole population it would be a big Baptist area. Anyways, this just shows you exactly how out of touch certain politicians are... Though, if they don't know what "Teabagging" means, I guess we can't expect them to realize how stupid a bill like this would look to anyone not in their hardcore 20% base.

Louisiana Rep. Preps State Bill Banning Human-Animal Hybrids

EveryNickIsTaken Re:What do you expect...? (422 comments)

I'm a troll? It's trolling to point out that this rep is a fucking moron?

The entire Republican party is trolling the USA right now. Apparently, they're the ones who aren't "real Americans" and are unpatriotic - just ask Gov. Rick Perry, the Texas secessionist governor.

EveryNickIsTaken What do you expect...? (422 comments)

What do you expect from the party that sucked us in with their nation-wide Teabagging this week?

I guess what's really sad is that creating legislation like this will likely get him *more* votes in LA. We just need to make sure there is an exemption for creating monkeys with four asses.

The End of Tax-Free Internet Shopping?

EveryNickIsTaken Re:This already occurs in NYS (784 comments)

I'm well aware of who is responsible for road upkeep. That's why I posted this point in the mini-thread here discussing high New York State taxes. (Hence the NYS in the subject) Take a minute. Scroll up, or click "Parent" a few times to read. I bet you wish slashdot had a "delete comment" function now, huh? Tool.

The End of Tax-Free Internet Shopping?

EveryNickIsTaken Re:This already occurs in NYS (784 comments)

So, you don't want any more transportation projects? How are you supposed to travel anywhere if no road work is ever completed? Just from weather damage, many roads would be impassable after only a few years.

EveryNickIsTaken (1054794) writes "Blockbuster announced today that for future HD releases they will only be offering Blu-Ray rentals. Existing stocks of HD DVD rentals will still be offered, but no new discs will be available.
From TFA:

Blockbuster has been renting both Blu-ray and HD DVD titles in 250 stores since late last year and found that consumers were choosing Blu-ray titles more than 70 percent of the time. "The consumers are sending us a message. I can't ignore what I'm seeing," Matthew Smith, senior vice president of merchandising at Blockbuster, told The Associated Press.

EveryNickIsTaken (1054794) writes "Gameinformer.com is reporting that the oft-rumored Zephyr may in fact be getting a May 1st release. From the artcle:

Retailers have confirmed that the new SKU is in their systems, set for a May 1 release for $479.99. In addition to the new video interface, the system would also pack a 120 GB hard drive into its nifty black exterior.
HDMI, 120GB hard drive, and a new black case? At that price point, I'd say it's rather unlikely the HD-DVD drives will be included."

EveryNickIsTaken (1054794) writes "CNET News.com is reporting that despite planning for months to ditch the name "Hotmail" for "Windows Live Mail," Microsoft will keep the Hotmail name, renaming the service "Windows Live Hotmail." Along with the slight name change, MS will be modifying the interface to look more like Outlook's GUI.

A quote from Senior Product Mgr. Richard Sim:

"By adopting the name 'Windows Live Hotmail,' we believe we're bringing together the best of both worlds — new and old. We're able to offer the great new technology that Windows Live has to offer, while also bringing the emotional connection many existing and loyal users have with Hotmail."

EveryNickIsTaken (1054794) writes "After recent rumors about a Xbox 360 Ghostbusters game, Joystiq.com reports:

The Ghostbusters drama just keeps on coming as Dan Aykroyd himself (who starred in and wrote the original film) has revealed just what is going on with our favorite revived franchise. From Dr. Raymond Stantz himself: "Universal purchased the rights from Sony for a game. I'm actually going to have to perform and do some motion capture for them. That will be next year." So now we know exactly why Sony had to drop the hammer on ZootFly and their Ghostbusters prototype. But why the sudden amount of interest in such an obscure property? It should be obvious by now that this is no mere coincidence. The moment the theme song itself resurfaced in a soon to be released Beatmania title, we knew something had to be up. And that something is a new feature film. In yet another interview, Aykroyd reveals that not only is Ghostbusters III in production, but it's a computer animated film in which he lends his voice. All that's left for this resurrection is some new toys and Ecto Cooler, because in 2007 Ghostbusters is all up in our grills, and we're loving it."
