2 US Senators Propose 12-Cent Gas Tax Increase

FatherOfONe Re:Good! (619 comments)

With all due respect. Are you crazy? New taxes are never the solution. Ever. This is like helping someone who is addicted to cocaine, more cocaine! How about this, they truely balance the budget first, then we can argue about how we should spend the money. You want new roads, awesome, then we cut social security, medicare and medicate. I am all for it! There is nobody on this planet that is as inefficient as our government and thus giving them more money is akin to being insane.. Their only solution to problems is to tax more, yet spending never really goes down.

Next you bring up building new roads in other countries. We somewhat agree on that one, but it sure is sad to see this administration snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. Could you imagine if we actually took the oil, and sold it for a profit? Then again all those crazy nuts who said the war was about oil could scream that they were right.

In America, 46% of People Hold a Creationist View of Human Origins

FatherOfONe Re:in other words, 46% of americans are dumb (1359 comments)

So you use a similar argument that the minister who believes that all gays should be jailed, because they are mentally ill? Nice....

If you choose not to believe in God, then that is your choice. Granted, I would wonder where you morals come from, and given your post above I can draw some conclusions....

Analytic Thinking Can Decrease Religious Belief

FatherOfONe Re:Whoever is responsible for this article (1258 comments)

I would suggest that you start to really think about it some more. I think once you get of the "how" and start to ask "why" you will see that there is more to life and our existence than just..... Well whatever the Atheist believe.

Analytic Thinking Can Decrease Religious Belief

FatherOfONe Re:Whoever is responsible for this article (1258 comments)

No way, they are way too busy paying off their college debts that they got while taking some liberal arts degree that hasn't landed them any real job. They don't have time to post on Slashdot. Oh wait I forgot about the ones that still live in the mothers basement..... but then they didn't go to college because they didn't need it to do PHP development...

Analytic Thinking Can Decrease Religious Belief

FatherOfONe Re:Whoever is responsible for this article (1258 comments)

Adam and Eve were the first, not the only. Pretty simple if you really think about it, but I guess you have to be analytical to do this kind of stuff :-)

I would have thought you would argue more about God creating the world in 6 days. I mean there are SO many more things that if you are a bible literalist then you could make better cases for.

Analytic Thinking Can Decrease Religious Belief

FatherOfONe Re:Whoever is responsible for this article (1258 comments)

I am sorry for you because you must not have actually learned anything in those 12 years, and the priest obviously should not of confirmed you (assuming you are telling the truth). I also call you out on saying that "they told us we shouldn't apply those thinking skills to religion". Now the great thing about free will is that you have a choice and nothing more. I would argue that someone saying that you are analytical if you don't believe in religion is somewhat laughable. Should we reverse it and say that anyone who doesn't believe in religion is devoid of emotion? I mean aren't all truly analytical people emotionless?

I hope that you find your religion again, and I would ask you to really be analytical and think not just about the "how" (which should alone drive you to believe there is a God), but the "why".

Good luck, and you know the old saying "There are on atheist in foxholes". :-)

Analytic Thinking Can Decrease Religious Belief

FatherOfONe Re:Whoever is responsible for this article (1258 comments)

It is because God gave mankind free will. So in your specific example the Pharaoh had a choice. How intelligent are we humans compared to ants? Now how intelligent is God compared to humans? There is a reason it is called FAITH, and not FACT, so it would be impossible for anyone to prove or disprove Gods existence. To think that we fully understand Gods will would be more absurd than expecting an ant to know our thoughts. However, it is known to Christians that God obviously loves us because of what he did for us.

On a side note, I would also say another observation is what types of people and families would you want to be a part of. Those that follow the teachings of the Bible or those that don't? Which side seems happier and more content with life?

Now for those that don't believe in any form of Religion, where exactly does your morals come from? I don't ask this to be a cynical, I am just curious. I mean if you could kill a person and society didn't care, but rewarded it for you, would it be ok? If not why?

Debt Reduction Super Committee Fails To Agree

FatherOfONe Re:So both and get it done! (954 comments)

I am sure you will get many other responses but I will try and put both sides view on this:

Republicans - Yes they would vote for yet another tax increase but the spending cuts must be done first and they must be significant. The entitlement programs make up well over 50% of the entire budget and that is where the real cuts must be made. Time and time again tax increases have been agreed to, with cuts promised later but they never get implemented. This time the voters are holding them to do the cuts first.

Democrats - The would vote for some cuts in spending but Medicare/Medicaid, Social Security are off the table. They want a tax increase first and then the cuts will come at a later time. They believe that the American people are sold on the idea that the rich are not paying their fair share and they will win more seats in next years election by standing firm.

There in lies the problem. In my opinion we need a firm balanced budget amendment to the Constitution to force people to make the hard decisions. That and we need to move our election day to late April.

The Nine Circles of IT Hell

FatherOfONe 10+ Circles (126 comments)

The 10th Circle of Hell is when upper management believes that outsourcing everything will save them money and time.

The 11th circle of Hell is when someone in a high place reads a magazine and decides that the entire company needs to head off in some "new" direction.

The 12th circle of Hell is partnering with Microsoft.

The 13th circle of Hell is partnering with Microsoft.

The 14 circle of Hell is replacing the guy who partnered with Microsoft.

The End of the Gas Guzzler

FatherOfONe How about an open market (897 comments)

How about we let the market decide instead of dictating fuel efficiency. It almost sounds like the freaking government actually kind of owns some of the auto companies.... oh wait....

Please dear God get this lunatic out of office soon.

Three Arrested For Sony/Egypt Hacks

FatherOfONe Re:They mean IRC chanops (119 comments)

They're charging them with a violation that could get them one to three years in prison. So, for now they're free (you don't get preventative imprisonment for that kind of charge), and I'd say there's a pretty good chance they'll end up dropping the charges due to lack of evidence.

Or they will go to prison and get ass raped. I know I wouldn't be sleeping well at night...

Microsoft Files EU Competition Complaint Against Google

Glen Beck Warns Viewers Not To Use Google

FatherOfONe Re:I think Beck has started to believe his own con (1276 comments)

When a media outlet puts out a statement saying the U.S.A has the worst healthcare in world, is when I make a statement like that. The GF post mentioned CNN said that and that 18 months later Fox said the opposite.

I am glad that you brought up Europe. I have spent some time there, and I would be to know what specific countries you would be referring to. Some are "ok" some flat out suck, and I don't want to throw stones at any one country over there because I generally do like most of the countries in Europe, but let me tell you some reality. A very good friend of mine needed open heart surgery. He was put on a waiting list, and the reality is that he would be long dead before his time came up for surgery. We (many of us) had to pay off the doctor to get his schedule moved up before he would be dead. Unfortunately this is somewhat the norm, and it is how the free market has adapted over there. The doctors WILL make their money after all. Did he get decent care? Yes. Did it cost him? YES! Would he have been dead without the bribe/expediting fee? Probably.

The U.S.A. use to believe in a true capitalist system. Yes the rich will get better treatment than the poor. That happens in EVERY society anyway and you are kidding yourself to think different. However, the U.S.A. use to promote the very best to become doctors and those doctors could make a LOT of money. As more doctors entered the workforce the salaries balanced out. The same with high end medical technology. At first things like an X-Ray was only for the super wealthy, but now it is common place and relatively cheap. Please don't fool yourself in to thinking that there is any solution where the poor get the same care as the rich. It NEVER happens, and the best anyone can do is to promote competition. This is the core difference between socialism and capitalism.

Glen Beck Warns Viewers Not To Use Google

FatherOfONe Re:I think Beck has started to believe his own con (1276 comments)

The current liberal market is younger and college level educated.

Bzzzt Wrong! The VAST liberal base is Union workers and low income minorities.

The conservative market are older and although contains college level educated individuals its not as high as the liberal market.

This is funny. I assume you mean doctorate level education. I certainly hope you are including theology doctorates in your statement.... I bet you are not.

As for the act, The Daily Show showed 2 clips, one from his CNN show and one from his FOX NEWS show, they were separated by about 18 months. On CNN he was saying the USA had the worst health care system in the world, but 18 months later he is on FOX NEWS saying its the best health care system in the world. So somehow the USA went from the worst to the best in 18 months with no legislation, reform, or any anything.

As for a fact the Daily show.... Ok guy you first need to stop getting your "news" from the Daily show. Last time I checked Stewart isn't exactly a news guy, but humor you a bit:
CNN said one thing....
time passed
Fox New said the opposite.

You don't need to wait 18 months, just turn on the news today and you will see opposite news. CNN use to be very liberal and Fox is conservative. Now to your specific point. Have you been around the world to actually see the difference. I have been around a bit, and have stayed in quite a few countries. I can say that CNN is so far wrong on this issue it isn't even funny. However, I challenge you to not trust either Fox or CNN but actually do some of your own research and find out. Then again there are some things you can just use your common sense on and see that people are not flooding in to Mexico from the U.S.A. People from Florida don't get in small boats and risk their lives to was ashore at Haiti and or Cuba. However, people do go to Canada for their prescription medications. Why? Because it is cheaper, and the Canadians pay for it with large taxes. What exactly happens when a flood of people from the U.S.A. start abusing this? For now we can just thank the Canadians for paying for U.S.A. drugs.. Thank you Canada, I guess we are even for letting you win the gold in hockey last time :-)

Glen Beck Warns Viewers Not To Use Google

FatherOfONe Re:blocking facts and research (1276 comments)

Actually Glen is a Libertarian, but why let facts get in the way of a good smear.

I generally find that when most people get true access to information they start to become more conservative or libertarian in views. VERY few people that are not elitist or trying to protect their power believe:
1. The governments role in our life should be greatly limited. The idea of handouts/bailouts should be stopped.
2. If someone works hard they should be able to reap the rewards of their hard work. Taxes should not punish the successful.
3. Government is not a religion. The government, by trying to "do good" often (almost always) fails and creates more problems.
4. Speaking of religion... Our rights come from God, not a government.
5. Laws are made to allow people to exist peacefully together, but those laws need to be formed with some sort of morality. That morality comes from God.
6. We in the U.S.A. have been granted by God; life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This does NOT mean health care, new cars, TV's, college education, Nintendo 3DS's/Sony NGP or pizza.
7. There are groups of people in the world that actually do hate the U.S.A. and will stop at nothing to kill everyone in it, along with Israel.

In short, smaller less "powerful" government. If we had that then Glen really wouldn't have a show, and nobody could argue that a company has some ridiculously strong ties to the government, because it really wouldn't matter. As it is now, Eric Schmidt is almost on the Presidents cabinet.

Sony Planning Serial Keys For PS3 Games?

FatherOfONe Re:And ...... (283 comments)

The ps3 platform lives in 1, 2, 3....

This move will NOT kill the platform but possible save it. I realize you probably don't own a PS3 or perhaps even game at all, but in case you haven't noticed, within the FIRST week of this hack being out, there has been all kinds of cheating now on COD. So much so that the developers of the game are now having to scramble to somehow fix it. The PSP is a platform that has a little over 50 million consoles out the door and yet can't sell a game for crap. Why? because of piracy. The PC (Windows), gaming is almost dead compared to what is was a few years ago. Granted there are still some large sellers, but they are far and few between. Why? Piracy.... Yes WoW sells well, but it is a game that is very difficult to pirate. At this point Sony needs to do WHATEVER it can to completely stop this, and I as a PS3 owner will happily take on some minor inconvenience to make sure that people I am playing with online are not cheating and more importantly, the game developers get paid for the games they produce, thus making sure that they make the next great game I want.

Yes there are some people that want to run Linux (fully) on the PS3, and they just want to hack it, BUT 99.99999999% of the people just want to steal the content and or cheat at the games. Those thieves and cheaters now effect the other games and thus they are scum. I don't know how long you have been around gaming, but this crap has been happening for a long time, and with the current cost of development, companies can't afford to have their crap stolen any more.

So is Sony overreacting? Seeing that sales of their games could be cut by a very large percentage in a few months? That their relatively new online service could be threatened completely in a few weeks? The real question will be when Sony decided to follow Microsofts' lead and start banning people/machines off of PSN for life. Also people better get use to the fact of buying a game and then being REQUIRED to go online to play/download/register part of it.
