DreamWorks Animation CEO: Movie Downloads Will Move To Pay-By-Screen-Size

Flentil Re:Pay per pixel? (347 comments)

It's probably because news shows are very competitive, and if I had to choose between one in SD or HD, I'd choose HD. You never know what's going to be shown on the news. You might not care, but lots of people who bought expensive HDTVs do care and will choose accordingly.

Virtual Reality: Purpose Beyond Gaming

Flentil Re:virtual workspace (72 comments)

You could create a 5th virtual display to constantly remind you that some words get capitalized and that typing in all lowercase is lazy, and it makes you look bad to your boss and anyone else who reads what you type. Typing in all lowercase is no better than your mom typing everything in all caps.

NASA Chief Tells the Critics of Exploration Plan: "Get Over It"

Flentil Re:What a monstrosity posing as a webpage (216 comments)

Who the hell uses the tt tag?

Arker does, every time he posts. He likes his posts to look different from everyone else, then he tries to convince people it's their browser settings that make his posts look strange and not his deliberate intent. He gets a lot of attention for it. He's getting it right now, again. It's tiresome. It's trolling.

Commenters To Dropbox CEO: Houston, We Have a Problem

Flentil Re:Again Timothy with the bullshit "stories" (448 comments)

It just goers over your head. The nerd part is it's about dropbox, something used almost exclusively by computer nerds. The stuff that matters part is about privacy of your data, which actually matters to a lot of computer nerds. You're so wrapped up in political BS your perception is skewed and you can't see things clearly.

Commenters To Dropbox CEO: Houston, We Have a Problem

Flentil Re:Again Timothy with the bullshit "stories" (448 comments)

You're really stretching to say this isn't news for nerds or stuff that matters, because it's clearly both.

Crowd Wisdom Better At Predictions Than Top CIA Analysts

Flentil Re:Luck resets every time you guess. (136 comments)

I think the majority here use Slashdot's default font and never messed with it, but you did mess with yours, making your posts stand out as odd. Blaming everyone else, making them responsible to fix the 'bug' you created on their screen, isn't very helpful. It's a lot easier to just mod you down than to delve into browser font settings and possibly mess up how we view all other websites, just because you like your posts on Slashdot to look like they were typed on an old-timey typewriter. Why don't you just fix your own browser font settings and not put the burden on everyone else?

Indie Game Jam Show Collapses Due To Interference From "Pepsi Consultant"

Flentil Re:Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra (465 comments)

I thought you were implying the mountain dew was now their tool and they downed it before walking out. I thought it was a lame attempt at being witty. You should just fix it.

How interested are you in Virtual Reality tech?

Flentil Re:Virutal and/or Augmented (202 comments)

I don't wear contacts and don't want anything touching my eyeballs, but I'd love to have something for VR that looks like regular sunglasses. Even something like Jordi Laforge's visor would be fine with me.

Come Try Out Slashdot's New Design (In Beta)

Flentil Wasted space (1191 comments)

I have a widescreen monitor and roughly half is blank white space. Also, the images load slow, like they wait for me to scroll and see they're not loaded and only then do they begin to load. I guess this is a feature, but it works like a bug. I'm with the others who say give us the option to see the old format, but the cynic in me says that will expire and we'll be stuck with the new view anyway in a few months.
Also, Slashdot, please remember what happened to Digg when they redesigned everything.

FBI Admits It Controlled Tor Servers Behind Mass Malware Attack

Flentil Re:So the FBI hacked servers to find pedos? (292 comments)

If you blame drug dealers for messing up your brother's life, you also have to blame bartenders for all the alcoholism, convenience store clerks for all the smoking related deaths, farmers for the obesity epidemic, etc, etc, etc. Or you could just admit that your brother made his own choices and it's no one's fault but his own.

Hardly Anyone Is Buying 'Smart Guns'

Flentil Three things... (814 comments)

1: Don't need another point of failure introduced, if the reader doesn't recognize it's owner at the worst possible moment when he needs to fire a gun.
2: Price hike. I expect there would be a hefty price jump with these newfangled electronic gizmos.
3: Remote killswitch? The police can kill your car's engine and disable your gun with a simple command. So can hackers.

Also, are batteries included? I don't think people want to charge up their guns, unless they're shooting plasma bolts.

The Coming War Against Personal Photography and Video

Flentil Re:hypothetical (221 comments)

I like this idea, but one problem - what about when the officer has to go to the bathroom? Should officers be forced to record that? What if they could radio in and request a five minute bathroom break to disable recording?

Care to explain how allowing up to 180k documented workers translates into MILLIONS of undocumented workers? They all have papers. They're also not going to multiply like tribbles, so what are you talking about?

Electronics Arts CEO Ousted In Wake of SimCity Launch Disaster

Flentil Re:Finally! (427 comments)

Spore too? This firing is long overdue. I bought that game and because of it's screwy DRM it crashed constantly on my PC until they patched it about six months later, then it was finally playable, but boring because they dumbed the game down to appeal to kids.

Is this the free game they promised? A $20 coupon you can only use on purchases of $30 or more?

Saints Row IV Announced

Flentil Re:Is this really news for nerds? (63 comments)

I completed Saints Row 2 and 3 and never saw any bugs. I've never seen anyone else complain on a forum about the games being buggy, only stupid.
