You're making the mistake of equating socialism with centrally-planned economy.

Experiment Shows People Exposed To East German Socialism Cheat More

Forty Two Tenfold Re:let me correct that for you. (617 comments)

the idea of Socialism: the state owned everything

That's kindergarten (mis)understanding of what socialism is. Socialism makes property become irrelevant. Communism begins when private PROFIT has become irrelevant.

Private property was outlawed. You could go to jail for making a profit.

That came straight out of a bovine rectum.

Dealing With 'Advertising Pollution'

Forty Two Tenfold Re:i'm glad to work for free (394 comments)

That's the worst thing about advertising

No, these are: 1. it raises prices, 2. generates NO improvement (on the contrary, 3. it is designed to push crap to consumers) and 4. wastes resources which could be used in R&D.

Mathematical Model Suggests That Human Consciousness Is Noncomputable

Forty Two Tenfold Re:Bad syllogism (426 comments)

botox actually can impair your ability to perceive well the emotions of others

That's interesting. I'd like to see some article on that, as the toxin only acts on effectors.

Mathematical Model Suggests That Human Consciousness Is Noncomputable

Forty Two Tenfold Re:no Ghost_no "singularity"_only sci-fi (426 comments)

Retrieving a memory strengthens it, and encoding a memory in brain is lossy or non-lossy only based on what you consider the information being stored

One might add, most of the brain is actually a filter and much of the information gets lost before it gets integrated into memory or even into associative pathways.

I lost a "0" in the first equation. Should be "10^3h".

Flaws In Popular Solar Power Management Platform Could Crash the Grid

Forty Two Tenfold Re:Unit (90 comments)

Whoa. Are you sure you've got your kindergarten diploma legally?

10^9W * 1^3h = 10^12Wh

1^12W * 1h = 10^12Wh

And 10^9W = 1GW, 10^12W = 1TW.

Computer Game Reveals 'Space-Time' Neurons In the Eye

Forty Two Tenfold Re:Is this all that surprising? (105 comments)

the electromagnetic field around our heart is 4000 times greater than the field of our brain.

Apples and oranges. In brain you have interference due to asynchronous activity. The heart works synchronously and therefore produces strong uniform EM field.

Mazda Says Its Upcoming Gas-Powered Cars Will Emit Less CO2 Than Electric Cars

Forty Two Tenfold Re:Do electric cars actually produce CO2? (330 comments)

Um, that would only be carbon sequestration if most of the carbon in steel came from the atmosphere (via charcoal).

Record wind power levels trigger energy price fall across Europe

Forty Two Tenfold Forty Two Tenfold writes  |  about 7 months ago

Forty Two Tenfold (1134125) writes "Electricity prices across Europe dropped last month as mild temperatures, strong winds and stormy weather produced wind power records in Germany, France and the UK, according to data released by Platts.

The price decline was more marked in Germany, where the average day-ahead baseload price in December fell 10% month over month to €35.71/MWh. On a daily basis, December was a month of extremes for Germany, with day-ahead base prices closing on December 10 and 11 at less than €60/MWh – the highest over-the-counter levels seen all year – only to fall to its lowest level December 24 to €0.50/MWh.

Let's talk about climate change weather and how it makes renewables more and more viable."

Obama Accuses Iran of Nuclear Ambitions Despite Testimony by Top Intel Official

Forty Two Tenfold Forty Two Tenfold writes  |  about a year ago

Forty Two Tenfold (1134125) writes "U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper confirmed this week Iran has not decided to develop a nuclear weapon and that it would be unable to do so secretly. Testifying before the Senate, Clapper said Iran could not divert safeguarded material to produce weapons-grade uranium without it being discovered. Despite Clapper’s statements, President Obama raised the prospect of Iran developing a nuclear weapon during an interview Thursday with an Israeli television station ahead of his visit to Israel next week."

When are you going to fix event handling?

Forty Two Tenfold (1134125) writes "The new slashdot interface is unusable. When trying to respond to a post in folded view, the click/mousedown events first unfold ancestors progressively instead of allowing to operate buttons, select parent post text or such.

When the hell are you going to make slashdot interface barely usable again?"

Polish computer genius, Jacek Karpiski dies at 82

Forty Two Tenfold Forty Two Tenfold writes  |  more than 4 years ago

Forty Two Tenfold (1134125) writes "

One of the greatest achievements of Polish science was the K-202 minicomputer. The device was designed by Karpinski in the years 1970-73. K-202 surpassed nearly 100-fold contemporary computers, worked at a rate of 1 million operations per second, or faster than personal computers marketed a decade later. Minicomputer was equipped with a permanent memory, as well as operational, which could be extended. K-202 was the most advanced equipment in those days, his only match the American and New Super Modular One from England. Unfortunately, despite the formation of the Anglo-Polish company which deal with production equipment, was founded only 30 copies of K-202.

Original in Polish."
