Gothmolly Thanks Polkit (64 comments)

And all the other *Kits - for making things fancy and GUI and creating a generation of Linux admins who don't actually know how things work.

Gothmolly Need a machine to tell you this? (74 comments)

"The soldiers most likely to take their own lives were men with past suicidal behavior and a history of psychiatric disorders and criminal offenses, including weapons possession and verbal assaults."

Thanks, Watson.

Ask Slashdot: How To Unblock Email From My Comcast-Hosted Server?

Gothmolly Relay somewhere else (405 comments)

Buy a VPS for $2 a month and relay to it over a VPN tunnel; Comcast won't be able to get their grubby paws on it.

The Strangeness of the Mars One Project

Gothmolly Triumph of 21st century thought (246 comments)

Think about it (if you can):
Wanting something is enough to make it happen.
Wisdom of crowds.
Scientists don't know everything.
You'll be famous.

Sounds like the recipe for external validation that every GenY and Millenial are craving.

Espionage Campaign Targets Corporate Executives Traveling Abroad

Gothmolly "Threat actor" - buzzword du jour (101 comments)

Suddenly this is the new thing. You could simply say "the thief" or "the bad guy" or "the spy", but then you wouldn't sound all Matrix.

Lighten up, Slashdot.

Machine Learning Expert Michael Jordan On the Delusions of Big Data

Gothmolly Anti-intellectualism of The Cloud (145 comments)

Like "best practice" or "zero tolerance" - I hear it all the time, senior managers and leaders talking about how The Cloud has "infinite storage" or "we'll put it all in 1 big database".

It's not visionary to assume there's a machine large enough to solve your problem, it's daft, and it's lazy.

Gothmolly Re:Jaded hipsters (96 comments)

All because he sold questionably valuable software company in the Internet dotcom boom. The rest gets easier when you have millions in capital.

I mind Slashdot's endless fellating of him more than I mind him.

Gothmolly (148874) writes "Love them or hate them, the GNAA (no link) are as much a part of the Internet as AYBABTU, or the Ha Ha Guy, or Natale Portman. Recently, Wikipedia deleted the entry for the GNAA, the stub page can be found here. Note that AYBABTU and the Ha Ha Guy both have articles, and are similar in scope (Internet memes). Since Wikipedia's Chinese site is different, and article subjects frequently clean up their own articles, is this just another internal-cleanup job by Wikipedia, or is Wikipedia trying to account for taste?"
