Internet Sales Tax Bill Dead In Congress

Grow Old Timber Re:Ok, they got ONE right... (257 comments)

We'll now get to see how the GOP does budget wise. They will blame Obama, for the rest of his term as always. Republicans get elected by being a pain for 6 years. People need to become a PAIN in the side of accountability.

AT&T To "Pause" Gigabit Internet Rollout Until Net Neutrality Is Settled

Grow Old Timber Then get out of the way (307 comments)

Municipalities are sure to be reading Slashdot and seeing the light at the end of the fiber. Who needs AT&T anymore anyway? They're a bank now too right?

US School Installs 'Shooter Detection' System

Grow Old Timber remember dialing 911 and the Cellphone? (698 comments)

hundreds of kids with cellphones seems to be working fairly well...at giving an eyewitness accounting too. saying "Valuable valuable time will be lost" is a scare tactic aimed to sell a false sense of security. Imagine if we can sell all this 'war stuff' at home??? Wall street will love it and post whatever it takes. A sad statement for our fear mongering sales side of it. Don't buy it and call them out..

Americans Rejoice At Lower Gas Prices

Grow Old Timber Re:Reality check (334 comments)

I agree with a lot of what you're saying...but according to the latest "news" Still think it's the Saudi's fault the price is so low per barrel? What has changed ;lately? Iraq has, the Sunnis there have a black market path Crude oil into Turkey. The big oil companies hate that undercutting them, so will go to war to "protect" our (their hard fought) oil source. How dare those Sunnis hurt our financial system built on $100+ per barrel? I say YIPEEEEE! And don't believe the news because it's propaganda. Do the research you'll see it's true.

Mathematical Proof That the Universe Could Come From Nothing

Grow Old Timber Re:Nothing? (429 comments)

The latest 'frontier' can be physical or imaginary. Someone has thought of the truth but has not had the floor to announce it. Or no one would consider him smart enough to listen to him in layman speak. So go home and pay your researchers for more questions.

Why Scientists Think Completely Unclassifiable and Undiscovered Life Forms Exist

Grow Old Timber Re:Have we discovered all there is to discover? (221 comments)

" it could exist in logical patterns in ocean currents, rock formations, and or weather patterns on timescales of picoseconds or millions of years." The weather is indeed capable of enough life to pass for a congressman, just kidding. Really I get a sense of 'a sort of living thing' watching the physics involved with storm cells & hurricanes etc. It's like a refrigeration system drivin' by the Sun. another life force, Remember; Don't piss off mother nature, son!

Is the Outrage Over the FBI's Seattle Times Tactics a Knee-Jerk Reaction?

Grow Old Timber Re:Why didn't they ask Myspace? (206 comments)

And how well did the tactics work in the latest Marysville threat? Maybe they are just a little too well hidden behind the scenes? Maybe they need to create their own terrorists to "stop them" (Portland Xmas tree lighting comes to mind)

Is the Outrage Over the FBI's Seattle Times Tactics a Knee-Jerk Reaction?

Grow Old Timber Re:No. Just no. (206 comments)

Who trusts what they read on the internet anyway? Well let's see; A Seattle Times article? (we should be able to believe that) BUT Trust the FBI? They can lie legally, nurture a homegrown terrorist and set him up for a Xmas bombing to scare Portland into complying. Remember that? We know who the real terrorists are. Just watch them and question our 'safety"

We know who has cut corners and killed our astronauts so far right? Need Another Seven Astronauts. You are short of memory. SpaceX is cutting costs no doubt. Just like America needs, to compete.

A Look At Orion's Launch Abort System

Grow Old Timber Re:This is why NASA sucks (44 comments)

I think NASA is in such a hurry to compete with SpaceX that they will cut corners. Coming out with a launch time about similar to SpaceXs' Pray for the astronauts in their capsule. . SpaceX clearly has a place in history despite NASA. Just watch... For SpaceX I wanna ride!

32 Cities Want To Challenge Big Telecom, Build Their Own Gigabit Networks

Grow Old Timber Re:'Bout time (175 comments)

I don't believe your point. Trying to say one monopoly is far worse than the other SURE LAME BRAIN. The more municipalities go this route the more the big guys will worry. Drop the rates so the rest of us won't favor a choice. Like you're suggesting will happen now, but it is NOT HAPPENING YET...

Pentagon Reportedly Hushed Up Chemical Weapons Finds In Iraq

Grow Old Timber Re:No WMD's...Really? (376 comments)

Yeah who can forget "significunt (pun intended)quantities of Uranium from Africa" He was a puppet lying to all of us. The reason why we THOUGHT he had chemical weapons is we SOLD them to him to fight Iran. That was made clear enough. Most of them were destroyed and were used a "reason" to remove Sadam and open the Anbar oil fields ISIS now controls. See how wrong "we" can be? How much else can we mess up, uh West Africa?

Experts Decry Randomized Ebola Treatment Trials As Unethical, Impractical

Grow Old Timber Isolate by bringing them across the world? (193 comments)

Isolate is the MAIN tool to get rid of this menace. So why would the health organizations insist on bringing them to other countries? SO that they can "help isolate" the organism on their behalf...come up with a very expensive cure. Very profitable if it escapes esp. A sad state of affairs when people are so greedy to "help themselves" to others perils. And what happens if some of these researchers morphs it into a real easily transmitted strain of Ebola? Hey Africa is the next BIG thing afterall..

I would not be so certain strong EMPs are NOT going to hurt a majority of electronics. We have not seen the worst nature (on earth and in space) has to offer. As a side note ever seen the movie "the day the earth stood still?"

Buckyballs and Diamonoids used to create molecular diodes

Grow Old Timber Grow Old Timber writes  |  about 2 months ago

Grow Old Timber (1071718) writes "Scientists working at the Stanford Institute for Materials and Energy Sciences (SIMES) claim to have created a molecule-sized electronic component just a few nanometers long that conducts electricity in only the one direction. In essence, a rectifier diode, but one so small that it may one day help replace much bulkier diodes and other semiconductors found on today's integrated circuits to produce incredibly compact, super-fast electronic devices."

Will Microsoft deliver service pack 4 for XP before the deadline?

Grow Old Timber Grow Old Timber writes  |  about 9 months ago

Grow Old Timber (1071718) writes "Would they go through the expense to do a final service pack before the end of the the support date in an effort to keep the systems around and from switching to another OS, like Linux?
If they are going to offer some sort of paid support, wouldn't it be smart to get as many people on board before? The reason I ask is; I am tried of the endless updates Win7 has to go through every time I log on and off. XP just works better. Until Win9 makes a debut..."
