The Milky Way Is Much Less Massive Than Previous Thought

Grow Old Timber Gravity? How about magnetic fields?... (119 comments)

Helioshperes as well as our own Ionosphere (magnetic field) have shown that magnetism is a universal force to be reckoned with. Indeed gravity could be just a magnetic effect on an atomic scale. The more mass the more effect. Electrons pulsing in a atom synchronizing with identical atoms become a united energy. That's what holds things together. And what gravity is, basically. A united atomic force. Too simple? .

The Misleading Fliers Comcast Used To Kill Off a Local Internet Competitor

Grow Old Timber Re:Get used to this... (250 comments)

All that writing and you never covered the fact that no one will buyout a municipal ISP. Or "merge" and that's a BIG consideration. Why the negativity and 'speaking for us' Slashdotters??? I think a lot of these responses are from paid employees of the providers, Eh? And what are they so afraid of...it failing? No it might be what we actually need for balance. And this is not "health care" so why even try to scare people by mentioning it.

White House Approves Sonic Cannons For Atlantic Energy Exploration

Grow Old Timber Re:The White House isn't stupid.. (272 comments)

So You're saying oil is cheap now??? You are blind to investor trading. Who is buying oil at $120 a barrel? We don't know because it's a 'privacy thing'. Or trade secret they say How convenient.... So what if BIG oil is buying their own commodity to keep the #s up. Saudi Arabia said they would be happy with $50 to 60 a barrel and yet it is double where it realistically should be, according to commodity analysts. I have studied it. So saying it would be $150 is a lie and scare tactic. Because THAt is exactly what caused the BIG recession. $147.00 price. Remember the saying "what can we do about it???" Or weren't you alive back when we got robbed of our hi-way freedom. We are paying TWICE as much as we should be for gasoline to line some traders pocket. PERIOD. wake up. The war in Iraq was supposedly going to free up oil and we have never paid more ever since.

Time Warner Turns Down Takeover Bid From Rupert Murdoch

Grow Old Timber Re:Comcast first (70 comments)

If you studied the matter you would find there are other reasons you should not want these mergers other than 'it won't affect me' Wouldn't it be great if there was a choice of cable/content providers? Look around there is, and it would help to keep switching back to satellite once in a while.

I have to appreciate the Senator going off on what could be a win for us. Although huge corporations have the lobbyists behind them Al Franken only has us. And I sure love the guy, crying out loud for the little consumer getting raked over the coals. Thanks Al Franken Go get 'em!. I wish you all the support you'll need.

Study: Why the Moon's Far Side Looks So Different

Grow Old Timber Re:Thought Gene Shoemaker figured this out... (79 comments)

BOTH sides of the moon would have an equal amount of gravitational pull is questionable. Tides are stronger on the near side of Earth right? Why not then the moon also? My theory stands. Rotation? The Moon does rotate regarding the Sun. It is a fact there is not rotation in relation to us, the good ship Earth. Just maybe the Moon is not so uniformly dense and one reason why the heaviest side faces us. Let's ask the Russians. After all they were mapping it in 1959, ha ha.

Study: Why the Moon's Far Side Looks So Different

Grow Old Timber Re:Thought Gene Shoemaker figured this out... (79 comments)

Maybe the Earth's gravity draws out more lava or liquid to create the Marias (there is a large amount of water on the Moon NASA finally admitted) There are moonquakes too. Those actions would cover up a lot of craters and not that had to imagine... Why didn't they think of that instead of coming up with such a weird conclusion? Here's another theory of mine; the near side of the Moon is more dense, duh.. That's why it always faces the gravity (us)

Blueprints For Taming the Climate Crisis

Grow Old Timber Re:DGW Dinsaurogenic Global Warming - crisis of ti (389 comments)

And WHO is this anonymous coward that refutes everyone (the experts) here? Probably paid to be a pain in the ass of any change.org er .com It's pretty simple we should have raised the petrol tax on ourselves, like Europe did 20 yrs ago to pay for the mass transit... Instead we waited for wall street oil investors to tax us into less freedom of the road. THEY are the deniers. Yes give us a walking lifestyle. Less cars more health. I am living it and it is great. Less consumption is rewarding in itself! Be free from the nay sayers and show the world we can be better.

White House May Name Patent Reform Opponent As New Head of Patent Office

Grow Old Timber Re:The long slide... (211 comments)

I agree 100% How far can the people get pushed around before we say ENOUGH. Do we HAVE to march on Washington again? At least that works! Democracy is about people not Capitalism. Reagan started it remember? Trickle down economics they called it. And see what we have got ever since. Erosion of rights and no effective voice in government. Not what our forefathers envisioned. There is a way as I see it. We all need to become 3rd party voters so there is no 2 party PARTY.

Will Microsoft deliver service pack 4 for XP before the deadline?

Grow Old Timber Grow Old Timber writes  |  about 5 months ago

Grow Old Timber (1071718) writes "Would they go through the expense to do a final service pack before the end of the the support date in an effort to keep the systems around and from switching to another OS, like Linux?
If they are going to offer some sort of paid support, wouldn't it be smart to get as many people on board before? The reason I ask is; I am tried of the endless updates Win7 has to go through every time I log on and off. XP just works better. Until Win9 makes a debut..."
