Apple To Face Lawsuit For iMessage Glitch

GryMor Re:The former iPhone user is an idiot. (238 comments)

There is no opt in for iMessage subverting SMS, there may be an opt out, but that doesn't seem to work reliably.

Woman Attacked In San Francisco Bar For Wearing Google Glass

GryMor Re:I don't want to live in a world... (921 comments)

That world arrived 10 years ago. Stop messing with my HUD just because it shatters the illusion that pervasive surveillance is somehow the future rather than the past.

Woman Attacked In San Francisco Bar For Wearing Google Glass

GryMor Re:Take pictures, press charges. (921 comments)

Which is why you have it uploading (snapshots if bandwidth is tight) in real time, just like you would for a cell phone's panic video mode (and your home security cameras, etc).

HTML5 App For Panasonic TVs Rejected - JQuery Is a "Hack"

GryMor Re:Psh, jQuery. (573 comments)

Several of the examples are either incomplete or not cross browser compatible. Pretty much all of them are rather more verbose than the equivalent jQuery, and NONE of them support proper chaining.

NASA Astronaut Talks "Gravity," Spacewalking, ISS

GryMor Re:Reach the "nearby" ISS? From Hubble? Uh, No. (97 comments)

An ideal intercept, while impossible on the 25m/s delta v of the old MMU, only actually needs 39m/s. Given a lighter weight, higher ISP advanced MMU and the initial disaster having lobbed them in generally the right direction. What isn't plausible, if they manage an intercept, is them doing anything more than destroying the ISS, continuing the Kessler Syndrome (it's another 39m/s to circularize and don't get me started on matching inclinations).

Uber Tip-Skimming Allegations Could Spark National Class Action

GryMor Re:Tip in cash (167 comments)

Uber isn't the restaurant. The Uber drivers are the restaurants that contract with a centralized booking and payment processing system that is Uber. You better believe the CC processing service for a restaurant is taking it's %age out of the entire CC transaction, be it line itemed for tax, tip or food.

Uber Tip-Skimming Allegations Could Spark National Class Action

GryMor Re:How is that an "upshot"? (167 comments)

Uber charges 10% of everything the same way paypal, amazon payments or nearly any other market maker plus payment services company does.

When you pay with a credit card at a restaurant, you better believe the payment processing company is taking it's cut out of the total transaction placed on the card.

Are Amazon Vine Reviews of Technical Books a Joke?

GryMor Re:Amazon needs their head read. (126 comments)

If I'm looking at a book, the reviews had better be about the book rather than one of the 100+ sellers of the book. If you want to review that particular seller, there is a separate spot for that, and low enough service ratings will tank their visibility across all of their products. "Cover damaged, terrible service" on a review of Excession is useless spam. The same review on the seller itself is helpful.

Neuroscientist: First-Ever Human Head Transplant Is Now Possible

GryMor Re:head transplant, or body transplant? (522 comments)

You can do that if you have three pumps and you only need the capacity of two (though for our purposes, I'd want to go with 2 packs of 3). If one is failing, seal it off and replace it. The access port is a bit of a problem in the biological setting, but at least you don't get issues with the online maintenance negatively impacting the morphology of the device in a progressively degenerative manner.

Ex-Marine Detained Under Operation Vigilant Eagle For His Political Views Sues

GryMor Re:not so simple... Re:I should hope so (279 comments)

This is where the "Do something" crowd falls down a pit of bias. We've seen similar rhetoric from politicians and tv 'personalities'. As rhetoric it's protected speech, as straight statements of non metaphorical intent, it's an imminent threat. The metaphoric rhetoric almost certainly far out masses the straight statements of non metaphorical intent, so just seeing the above is not a proper signal of a threat, though if sufficient resources exist, it may warrant some spot checks to see if there are other signals, on it's own, it shouldn't be sufficient to detain anyone. If, on it's own, that is sufficient to detain someone, then large swaths of society are arbitrarily detainable; not necessarily for those specific views, but for rhetoric of that style. At that point, certain Jefferson quotes may in fact, need to come into play. I hope that point is not imminent, that the trial turns up proper non rhetorical, non protected, signals that fully justify the detention and aren't nigh universally and arbitrarily applicable to most citizens.

Does Antimatter Fall Up?

GryMor Re:What am I missing? (255 comments)

Well, you'll notice that they have gotten things down to within 3 orders of magnitude of providing meaningful results on +1 vs -1. I was more answering on why it's not as easy as a single particle test, not claiming it's not possible given sufficient tests.

Does Antimatter Fall Up?

GryMor Re:What am I missing? (255 comments)

And you'll likely end up measuring the bias of your trap rather than the effect of gravity on the particle after the asymmetrically decaying field of your trap has given it a kick.
