Why Does the US Cling To Imperial Measurements?

H0D_G Because.... (2288 comments)

It'd smack too much of you giving in to the French.

Seriously, it's really frustrating when watching American science documentaries and all of the units aren't SI units. Scientists should always, always use metric.

Are Graphical Calculators Pointless?

H0D_G Re:Obvious (636 comments)

The other part is too, that if your answer is wrong, it could be a simple calculation error.

Getting the right answer is less important than the process of mathematical reasoning.

The 5-Year Console Cycle Is Dead

H0D_G Re:Say again? (422 comments)

That's totally untrue. The new 360s have a dedicated port for the Kinect, but it's not built in by any measure. Only difference is that the new port eliminates the need to plug the Kinect camera in to a separate power source.

Gold Nanoparticles Turn Trees Into Streetlights

it'd still require chemical or physical processing to extract the gold nanoparticles, which would take a lot of resources. Nanoparticles are pretty damn small

McCain: Lift offshore oil drilling ban

H0D_G H0D_G writes  |  more than 6 years ago

H0D_G (894033) writes "Republican Candidate John McCain has proposed to lift the 27-year ban on offshore oil drilling in the US. From The Article "Energy conservation is no longer just a moral luxury or a personal virtue," he said. "We must also address the concerns of Americans who are struggling right now to pay for gasoline, groceries, and other necessities of life." Rival Barack Obama has responded, saying"plans to allow offshore drilling would offer limited benefits to drivers because no oil would be produced for at least a decade and even then "the effect on prices would be negligible" http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,23882956-601,00.html"

Clean air could kill the Amazon

H0D_G H0D_G writes  |  more than 6 years ago

H0D_G (894033) writes "The Australian reports that reduced greenhouse emissions could actually kill the rainforests. The report, published in Nature and also reported on in Newscientist shows a correlation between increased sulphur dioxide levels in the atmosphere and increased rainfall. with the reduction of sulphur dioxide from coal emissions set to increase due to climate change concerns, the amazon may experience drought conditions. Kind of ironic, that stamping out pollution may not in fact save the rainforests."
